About this ebook

Summary somehow denotes that there is an end. This should only be the beginning. Depth Without Water should stimulate thought and cause the reader to produce positive thoughts and/or add on to their already-positive thoughts, that will in turn become positive actions. Depth Without Water is about the substance in the little things that we all have a tendency of taking for granted. The intensity of expression is a testament to how serious the so-called small things end up being. Of course this is only my take on the issues. If you disagree, please let me know. If you agree, then show the world your appreciation!

    DEDICATION

This is my first work of art, and I dedicate this first book to the most important people on the planet. The Black Woman!!! I would like to thank you all for bringing us into this world, and for helping us to survive through the efforts of others attempting to kill us.

Additionally, I would like to apologize for all black men for allowing things to become so morally and socially deteriorated that there’s so little respect between us. We need you and we want you. Believe it or not, we love the shit out of you.

When I say black women; I mean Great-Great-Great Grandmothers, Great-Great Grandmothers, Great Grandmothers, Grandmothers, Mothers, Stepmothers, Wives, Great-Great-Great Aunts, Great-Great Aunts, Great Aunts, Aunts, Sisters, Stepsisters, Nieces, Cousins, Girlfriends, of all professions, out of prison, in prison, in homes, homeless, locally, nationally, and internationally.

    TO THE OPENER

Thank you for taking a look inside. I think that this is a very special piece. It’s real, authentic, filled with emotion, and it has major political and historical potential. That’s my opinion.

Please bear in mind that sometimes we can lose the natural flow of something if we get too caught up in so-called traditional shit. Try not to get caught up in the way that I use words. Just read it with enjoying, floating and growing on your mind. THIS IS NOT AN ENGLISH GRAMMAR CLASS!!! You may see words that you’ll say don’t exist. However, if you read it as a result of seeing it, it exists. Conditioning has us fucked up!!

All important, is what you can take with you from this book. Even if you don’t purchase it, if you got this far and decide to close it and walk off, I sincerely hope that a few words touched you and added something to the already.

    INTRO

First of all, thank you for opening me up. This is not a can of worms but a book of empowerment, positivity, encouragement, enlightenment, love, appreciation, acknowledgment and self-esteem building.

The writing is mine; from prison, pain, self-reflection, parole, sickness, relationships, love, loneliness, being released, observations and everyday experiences. Nothing monumental, but all significant.

If there is a black woman in your life that deserves to be appreciated, or needs to be enlightened to another way of viewing things positively, this book is for her.

If there is a black man that does not realize how important the black woman is, or is afraid to relate humbly and emotionally to the black woman because he deems it a weakness or a point of vulnerability, then this book is for him.

If there is anyone that is willing to broaden their scope regarding how instrumental the black woman is/has been for black women, black men and everyone else in the world, this book is for you.

This book is for newlyweds, for people who have been married for years, for people who don’t want to be married.

This book is for students from Junior High on up. I start at Junior High because of the profanity that I periodically use to emphasize. That’s my way, my style.

My past is ugly. Welcome to my future.

    Again I thank you.

    Marc

PS My intention is to offend no one. I do not, however, intend to please everyone.

    FORWARD

A man having done over 17 years behind cold steel bars, yet able to maintain such a loving heart.

To many, he appears intimidating and serious, but that is simply a layer of protection, as not to bruise the gentleness of his soul.

He is a man of few words, yet says soo much.

As you read through Marc’s poetry and enter his mind, you will live his struggles—feel his pain—acknowledge his growth—and embrace his triumph.

Marc, I have had the pleasure of knowing you for over 10 years, you are my friend, my family, my brother. The consistency of your kindness, sincerity and giving nature amazes me.

I am extremely proud of you.

Keep shining as bright as you already do!

    Love, Jennifer (Jenny) Riveiro

    DECLARATION

    (BLACK WOMEN ARE SO SPECTACULAR)

Black women are so spectacular, beautiful in their variety

With all shades and hues, sizes and shapes, with or without modesty

Sometimes you can see the strength in their walk, the pain deep in their eyes

Angry because so many times, they’re confronted by so many lies

Sometimes their hands describe their position, rough from the labors of love

Providing their children and mate with it all, while believing in help from above

I watch them alone or with their children, their protective armor real

Many times wearing a mask of indifference, not wanting to really show how they feel

Some are so sexy to see, so tender to behold, as delicate as any rose

Their beauty so bold no makeup needed, always a natural pose

Then there are those who are too full of themselves, getting more attention than they deserve

I say that because they talk down or at, and that takes a whole lot of nerve

Sometimes because they have been hurt, they wear pain as though it’s a badge

Wanting to dip a mans face in Palmolive, instead of the hands like Madge

I threw that in because I had no other line, but there are some who do follow

Just what I mean when I describe, that personality that’s hollow

I can understand that pain angers, I don’t know anyone who’s immune

But like the Earth, despite devastations, it still looks radiant in June

And that’s what I like when I see a sister, despite pain she can still show love

Radiate warmth and genuinely care, and be on you emotionally like a glove

Unafraid to say, Yes, I’ve been hurt but so what, been down but not out for the count

Twelve rounds forever, for there has to be for my heart, someone in this world who’s willing to mount

Can’t all be the same or I’d give up trying, and just stick with the fool I was with

But like many things said, such as Seeing is believing, I know that shit is a myth

There’s depth in investigation and the beauty of black women, can only be seen through such

Like the variety you see in your daily journeys, visually
