"Before You Met Her" is a short collection of poems meant to remind you that the strongest, breavest, and most amazing version of you is yet to come. Writing these poems helped me overcome heartbreak, death, fear, and loneliness. It will remind you of difficulties you have faced or may face in the future, but it will also remind you to look back at your life to admire and be grateful of how far you've come. If this book in any way inspires you, motivates you, or slightly reminds you that better things are coming, then it achieved it's purpose.

Karla Julieta Garcia

Karla Julieta García is a Mexican poet based in Los Angeles, California. After being published in various digital platforms, magazines, art exhibits, and by the city of Venice via LADOT, she has finally finished her first book titled "Before You Met Her" published in early 2022. Currently, Karla holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Cal-State Northridge. She continues writing on the side but hopes to one day make a living out of writing. Her dream is to create a show or movie for Netflix.

Proves what we feel

With our actions

If the actions are not aligned 

With the words

The words are not aligned with the feelings

That’s when words start to lose meaning

That’s the part that hurts.

The real her has bodies

lying underneath her

She walks

among fallen angels

proud of the things

they don’t know

about her

she is both

magic

and witchcraft

unavailable to single realm souls.

I gave her room to fail

I gave her room to learn

I gave her agency to find herself.

I gave her power

I gave her strength

I gave her time to discover

who she wanted to be.

She is you.

Her is me.

I wanted to be there for you

For when your nights got lonely,

to hold you when your feet got cold.
