INTRODUCTION
E VERYONE WANTS THEIR life to work. People rehearse the daily course of events that have led up to a failure in their lives, such as the end of a relationship, lack of finances, weak faith, or lack of self-motivation. All these (and then some) are challenges that people are faced with daily and oftentimes fail to conquer. As a result, most people live for years wearing the shame and regret of a past failure. Ultimately, they fail to rebound fro m the past.
For some, it is because the failure has simply happened year after year, try after try. This can be very disheartening and can seem hopeless. If this is your story, I understand completely! In the areas of life that I am about to discuss, I have failed miserably to a point where I vowed to never try again to reconstruct the areas of friendship, finances, faith, and MYSELF!
I got to the point where not only did I not trust people, but I also didn’t like them. In my finances, it seemed like I never had enough. Every time I had extra money, an emergency would come up and I was broke again. So I wouldn’t try to save money: if I had extra, I would blow it!
I was born into a very dysfunctional family. As a result, I was bounced around from house to house; I even lived in a foster home for a while. Then I lived with my aunt, and it was a more stable environment. I had elder brothers, but they were not available. This created a part of the tear that began to run in my self-esteem. As a result, the lenses through which I viewed relationships were not clear. It seemed like the more I hurt, the less I could feel God. I oftentimes thought that God was mad at me, which was the reason why He allowed people to hurt me and walk away from me. I believed God was the reason why I missed certain opportunities, and why I never felt good enough to try to go after other opportunities. And last but not least, I felt God was the reason I never had any extra money! When I would go to church and hear the Word of God, I would think God could move miraculously for everyone but me.
BUT IT IS ALL A LIE!
If this is how you are feeling, please come with me on this journey, see what I have experienced, and note the lessons I have learned as a result of walking down this road. In this book, you will learn that you do not have to live with the pain of past rejection or self-sabotage, nor do you have to remain mad at God! But you can be satisfied with your friendships, finances, faith, and YOURSELF!
CHAPTER ONE
Friends
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.
—George Washington
F RIENDS! THEY CAN make life so much easier to bear. They are there to celebrate the good times in our lives, and they are there to hold our hand during the low times in life. They are the people that we trust with our deepest secrets and the ones that share some of our greatest life events. They are oftentimes
