The Mighty Unconquerable: The Latest Speculations on Love
()
About this ebook
First, it simply defines love. Then it says love is accessible even to those who seem lacking in love. Third, it suggests that love and sex are partners. Finally, it frees love from the custody of god, the church, conscience, morality, science, and technology. Love can be provocative. Shorn of curls and lipstick, love is muscle and bone. This is a gentle book.
Contrary to experience, we pretend we are basking in love, but were frustrated when we dont receive its expected rewards. We accept the platitudes but reject mindless loves modest ideals as impractical and dangerous. Love fills the news in a myriad of oblique forms; it is time for serious discussion.
This is not a how-to book. It is not an argument for atheism, science, god, judgment, or even intelligence. Love stands strong and independent. The Mighty Unconquerable advances the hearts opportunities for love.
Charles S. Whistler
Charles Whistler moved to Florida as a young man and, on his way, discovered Zen, haiku poetry, and aphorisms. These were his beginning tools as an author. Writing seriously, humorously, exaltedly, and divisively about God gave him reason to leave a small trail, but growing confidence and dedication to his craft has allowed him to produce volumes of work. Reading and writing steadily, he has revised, been work shopped, and judged by qualified judges. Obviously commercial and scholastic successes are the true standard and the only guarantee of relevance and worth, but credentials and reputation, finally, are for readers only to define. His philosophy can be summed up as follows: Inspiration is a leaf Erratic in drift But like the arctic tern That flies from pole to pole Ever vigilant without rest Inspiration must be sustained By direction and dedication

LOVE IS LOVE
We are born
Into a diffused realm of love
Which is throughout all the universe—
We are born
As the richest concentration of that love—
We are not born defiled
We are not born in sin
We are not born in loss or separation
From that source—
We are born as love
More powerful, more bright, more pure
Than the most awesome star in the firmament—
*
Love is a positive
Love never can be negative—
Love, whatever it is put through
Love, however it is abused
Love is a positive
Love never is a negative—
*
All contradiction is lost
In love
All confusion is lost
In love—
Love is the peace and clarity of life—
*
When we think love raises doubt and confusion
It is not love we are puzzled by—
Love only is the sure, solid, serene
Law of the universe—
We cleave to love—
Love is the power and support
Of the eternal—
*
BEYOND BELIEF
Love contains
No impurities—
No speck of sin
Stirs its surface—
No cloud of fear
Clots its sheen—
No drop of guilt
Tinctures its heart—
*
Love
All pure
Rises
From every source—
*
Love has no age
Love is nothing of vice—
Virtue fails without love—
Virtue is nourished
In the solid security
Of love—
*
ABUNDANT LOVE
We have love for all time—
We come to it
In our first draft of air—
We witness and experience it
In changing abundance all through life—
We come to the relief of love
Last in life—
How can we bemoan a dearth of love?
We are given the spark of love
To shelter and feed
Or to smother and starve—
But it cannot die—
We have love for all time—
Let us sustain it in secure niches
And crowd about it—
Let us carry it high
In torch-lit celebration—
Let us magnify it like the sun
Let us testify to the abundance of our love—
*
Our idea of sin
Is a needless barrier
To union with god—
We have never been apart from god—
We are forever of god
In love—
*
Love presents no inequality—
No runner over the lame
No man over woman
No king over commoner
No man over animal or plant
No god over man—
For all of history we have lived
On bended knee, in obsequiousness—
We knew no other way
We lived and were content
With master over the humble
With the rich over the poor—
We granted this to be an acceptable bargain
For our safety
Even when our danger
Most often came from the powerful
We sought relief from—
We made a noble philosophy of it—
We raised this inequality to high art
And cloying sentimentality—
As subservient we honored god
As protector, judge, provider, and arbitrary ruler—
We found reason to honor and fear
The strong in a long sliding scale of power—
Love is equality
Whatever the discrepancy
In power, endurance, mystery—
Our intelligence doesn’t make it so—
Our intelligence is so rudimentary
As to be laughable—
It is common sense
That reaches this conclusion—
Be it the creator and the ruler
Of the universe this is so—
*
Love gathers all in its bounds
The weak and the strong
The rich and poor
The proud and the humble—
It has one character
Which is all inclusive—
It gathers the weak
As a fragile egg inside wool batting—
The strong it grasps
In arms of bone and sinew—
Love glides, works, labors
Toward the healing, the wholeness
Of all of us—
Perhaps love is not all wise
In the error prone minds of man
But it is not for want of seeking
The light that love prevails—
And what is there to take its place?
Love is the surest, the most direct path
Between us and the eternal—
*
Love has only one goal—
It is all of good—
It can be only paradise directed—
*
Even as earnestly as we would sidestep it
It is impossible to mention love
Without bringing in god
As part of the discussion—
God and love
As being, condition, word
Are used interchangeably in this book—
Neither affects the integrity of the other—
*
God is love—
God cannot exceed himself
Or
