About this ebook
Niema Foxe
Niema Foxe has been an avid reader and writer since the age of 9. She is a fan of the written and spoken word, has written poetry, short stories, and circulated her Uranian Times Newsletter and Niema’s Monthly Forecast from 1995 to 2005. She recited her poetry live and recorded at local Philly ‘underground’ college radio stations WKDU-FM and WRTI-FM, as well as enacted performance pieces upon joining a local poetry group, coined Today’s Black Writers, where they performed at dinner-theater clubs, museums, and even by bringing their original brand of showcasing poetry in playwright-form to several prison systems. Through contacts made with WRTI, Niema was invited to co-host talk show, Metamorphosis, with then-host, Ron Alexander, where they discussed issues and concerns of the day, as well as interviewed top political figures in the community. She went on to cowrite a play, Moving Right Along, with a fellow writer and poet. Also during this time, she performed in a local band as a vocalist and worked on albums as a backup vocalist. Due to her overlying creative urges, Niema also designs by hand various artistic fashion and accessory items for sale on her ecommerce websites. The overall theme of her life is dedicated to creativity, as she states: “I have been blessed with the gift of creativity. I believe if one is given a special gift, they should share that gift, and I intend to do so in as many ways possible.” Given her abundance of faith and confidence in her own self and gifts, and the love that she incorporates into her work, Niema is bound to succeed, and to share that Love of Life and Hope and Spirit with all. This book is dedicated to all
my loves—past, present, and future. To my past loves: this book could not have been born without you, and I thank you for all of the love, happiness, tears, and pain. To my present loves: thank you so much for your support and concern in helping me move forward with my dreams, even though the task seemed near impossible. To my future loves, whomever you may be, you are welcomed into my life, my heart, my arms, and my dreams.
Special Mention: Marion E. Lilly, my mother, a courageous woman who, although crippled from childhood, raised three girls by herself, giving them the best that the middle-class experience had to offer. She obtained a college degree at the age of seventy.
PREFACE
An astrologer once told me that I was unique in the fact that I truly understand the nature of love, both personally or universally. He called me the lover
for I do truly love.
My heart is full enough to encompass many, and it has been said that those who have been loved by me have truly been loved. All of us—the great, the weak, the small—need love in some way, form, or fashion. Love is magic; its uplifting and transformative qualities are truly unique, and its balm can heal the wounds of nations.
There is no shame in feeling love, only in the love one may feel for another—of being afraid of expressing that love. Love is one of nature’s and God’s most precious gifts.
There is no fear in my heart and no shame within me when I say I love you for love is the greatest force of all. Love is genuine and enduring, yet asks for nothing in return save for acknowledgement and acceptance. In other words, it asks for itself.
It does not seek to tie or bind, it does not barter for jewels or gold, it does not contain, provide compromises, or trade-offs, nor does it seek to subjugate or rule. Love is simply this: an eternal flame that burns brightly in the heart of us all. Pristine, pure, open, giving, nurturing, and forgiving.
Love is the best gift that I have, and I give it to you gladly, joyously, and with all of my heart. As the writer and poet Kahlil Gibran said, My heart is an open circle.
