    Introduction

    From your author

Why a course on acting? Anyone wanting a career in stage or screen performing has access to all kinds of that type of education, right?

Professional performers put on acts of which are required of them, not an act of whom they are. Comparing the two, getting one’s personal act together is about being what a person wants to be in an automatic manner on a constant basis.

I very often ask people, What do you want to be or what would you want to be if you could? The greater majority reply with a job, trade or profession of some type. Many will just say, I don’t know.

Technically, those responses really do not answer the question. The question was what to be, not particularly what to do. The being part is what real life is all about. The professional performers are being what someone else wants them to be.

It seems as though so many people want to be what someone else wants them to be. That isn’t getting their act together. That isn’t building their character. Many times, that only causes frustration on centering in for developing an act the self may choose.

When I was a kid, I had no concept at all I could be whatever I wanted to be inside of myself where I could radiate a charm, personality or character of myself that could be real and depended on. I was told to be seen and not heard, so the manner in which I presented myself to others was a frustrated, quiet, backward, inhibited and very shy person. I received very little intellectual or emotional support from my parents or anyone else and many years passed until I experienced the knocks and ill fated social breaks that prompted me to pursue an education of what life was, is and could be. It was exasperating and emotionally painful to realize I was under an influence of failing in life at first. Slowly, I formed a whole new person of which I am still developing and will never quit.

That kid I was had no character or part to play in this life except to be hesitant, scared, shy, backward and didn’t really know which or what Lloyd McIlveen was about until I reached junior high school age and had the opportunity to meet maturing kids and express my interests in the next level school subjects. That’s when I began to notice my act stumbling into formation. The act improved with time.

Making a long story short, the severe and emotional transformation I encountered from a backward and scared kid is what I like to believe now a finely polished and confident character of my choice. That leaves me in a better position, perspectively, to be instrumental in influencing others to realize they can also form or reform their character within to one that may be surprisingly better than they were if they choose to do so.

Gathering awareness for getting one’s act together is a significant addition toward achieving that new and rewarding way of life.

    Preface

The perception of very young people is much less matured than medium aged people and very much more needed to live and survive happily and fulfilling. Unfortunately, they are educated with subject matter galore, but not with enough concern pertaining to perception. Then, when they reach the interim ages, they are too busy to be concerned about perception to maintain a wide view over their interactions with others. The awkward results of that minor inability as compared to the many talents they may have acquired is a feeling of missing something because certain things didn’t come together as might have been expected.

Time passes with the leaps, bounds and stumbles as life unfolds and they become a little older still without a satisfied hunger of certain desires and/or ambitions. Some of them will say, I have to be me. Some will say, You have to accept the way I am, and still others in various manners want to become more accepted, so many will intermingle in a state of discontent and incompatibility unaware of what to do about it.

The trick to avoid most of these life’s shortcomings could have been and can be accomplished through the medium of formal education, right? Let’s search it out.

    Unfortunately again, in this case
