NLP and Manipulation - James Jones

Introduction

In recent years, psychology has tried to elevate the human spirit with lots of popular psychological terms, like Positive Psychology or the numerous books released to tell the masses how to behave, from talking about parachutes, ten steps to doing anything, the myriad titles of how to and much more.

Most of them are nothing but misplaced therapy or a momentary fad. Can life be as easy as reading the right book and following some basic concepts, and all will be OK for you and me?

This book is special, here we discuss the Evil side of the human mind; that part which sees disengagement, degradation, and vile acts as part of the everyday human experience that arises from time to time in us, all the parts which find passion, happiness and enjoyment in the chaotic aspect of our life.

How does culture accept its dark side? I use the term ‘crazy’ to apply to others who are contrary to the societal standard within society.

First, let's look at how Dark Psychological Thinking and Actions may be defined. We need to be able to measure what's normal and what's considered abnormal behavior. Our first indicator is societal norms; this implies, despite a collection of conditions that challenge our understanding, what is called standard daily activity in every society.

In Western culture, for example, violently striking another person is considered a criminal act, and one that is repulsive to a peaceful society. However, we condone violence when a person is given societal permissions, such as a soldier, a policeman in the act of apprehension of a dangerous criminal, or a citizen defending his family from another person's serious threat.

There are many ways these double standards can be misinterpreted by those who have been given such permissions.

The soldier who commits war crimes such as genocide, the policeman who uses violence to intimidate a witness while interviewing them, or the citizen who violates the rights of other persons in order to in some way continue his own position.

Is the second test moralistic? How do we, as a community, determine what is right and wrong, who has the authority to establish such freedoms, whether laws enforce moral principles, or do they defend the vulnerable from the powerful or the wealthy from the poor?

Most cultures accept that murdering another human being is beyond a moral code; killing is inherently unethical and will be punishable with an act of similar seriousness by the state that upholds the universal legal status placed by its legislators on the people. Certain cultures have developed a moral code of ethics, including the 10 Christian religion commandments/laws and other similar codes from Buddhism to the Quran.

Trust in divine compensation and retribution is embodied in the vocabulary of justice and rules seen as the building stone of every modern nation of citizens.

Having accepted these standards, why do people deviate readily from these values, laws, and religious guidance that allow us all to live in a peaceful community ruled by established principles of behaviors that protect individuals from threat, damage, and abuse?

The third field of conduct is that it is not codified in legislation or moral doctrines, but the common collections of actions that the English consider manners or personal. The behavior that conforms to actions recognized as that of a superior member of a community who understands how to behave themselves in the company of others within a collection of norms that are regarded as characteristic of an evolved civilization.

This can sometimes be seen in table manners protocol or a man who opens a door for a woman and allows her to enter first, acknowledging the obligation of man to protect and defend women.

Today, in some cultures, the rights of women have cast doubt on woman's manners as sexist, thus demeaning the independence of women. In the upper echelons of society, whether it is traditional Englishness or a Japanese tea ceremony, manners are seen as the mark of being well-bred.

Having developed communities with various forms of assessing conduct, either by legislation, morality, or socially accepted norms; human beings often must deal with a wide variety of unstable conduct, which also impacts and affects us to the extent that the victims of such activity sometimes find themselves beyond the rules, moral codes and manners of the community. Most people know, through feeling guilty, when we have transgressed certain laws that we find necessary for a well-ordered society.

However, there are those other people who feel nothing about dealing with violence, destruction, and death against others as simply their right to live without those rules and the freedom to live a life determined by nothing more than what they want to own, possess or destroy.

The Dark-Side

What does the man who kicks his dog possess when he is frustrated by what society thinks about his existence? In the moment where the dog cries and howls in pain and terror, what emotions will he release? Why is he laughing, wanting the dog to hurt, and loving the sight of an animal in pain?

Onlookers are appalled at his actions and lack of compassion for the defenseless dog that this guy has been attempting to exploit cruelly and without empathy whatsoever. Who is that guy? Every now and then, he's all of us. We always lose our sense of personal equilibrium and fair thinking when we discuss inequality or lack of opportunities in life.

On the other hand, what if this man is wealthy and has satisfied all his desires, but he still takes immense joy in kicking and seeing the dog struggle at his paws?

He’s showing a sense of superiority and feels it is his right to cause suffering and the satisfaction that comes with feeling superior over many lower status individuals that he sees as powerless to do what they desire and instead end up as his staff and servants.

This superior positional thinking leads to a lack of sympathy or empathy for others, accepting his kind of dominance as leaders and legislators.

The above explanation offers an overview into an action that violates our three indicators of societal standards, rule (hurting a defenseless animal), moral conduct (the ban against unnecessary actions perceived as doing wrong), and socially appropriate behavior (while most who lose their patience and kick their dog, they feel excruciating shame and remorse).

However, here we find individuals who have no shame, no regret, and see themselves as being excluded from the rules from which they differ.

In England, was fox-hunting a barbaric activity done mainly by educated, skilled, wealthy men and women? Yet these same people claimed the right to hunt and destroy a defenseless animal as they saw their hounds rip apart and devour a fox for nothing more than a good time.

While the bulk of the English population voted to prohibit this activity on several occasions, it required many years of lobbying to have this placed into legislation.

Fox-hunting is now an illegal activity, but these same people are still flouting the law and hunting under local by-laws that have yet to comply with national legislation. Such people realize what they do, as described by public consensus, is unlawful, unethical, and against societal norms. However, they appear to be the dominant members of English culture, and therefore beyond the common masses' day-to-day spiritual issues.

The surprising thing is that in England, these people are members of parliament, police, judges, and others who control aspects of England's society, such as property owners (land often given in the past by Royal consent by robbing the rightful land of the poor). In other terms, the same individuals who would give a precedent to the community are the very ones who flaunt the rules and conduct that is considered inappropriate.

We have to look at the suspect in another case. Criminals are also viewed as society's rejects, as they come from dysfunctional environments, deprived communities, and inadequate parental education.

But the biggest damage done to the people from this culture is also induced by organized corruption, such as the embezzlement of pension funds, insider trading in securities and bonds, and the stealing of money and property by CEOs and government officials.

This so-called ‘white-collar crime’ is frequently undetected and is the most difficult to bring to justice. Everyday offenders are more visible to the public, as their actions are creating regional misery and make the community screaming for intervention from the police and civil authority. Hence, most laws are about ‘visual’ crime, which is easy to understand. Visual criminal sentencing is always straight forward, and we see it in our courts and newspapers daily.

How can we differentiate between the two groups of offenders — the so-called victimless criminality of white-collar perpetrators who don't have a particular victim or the psychopath who murders and mutilates others who challenge his desire to take from humanity everything he needs and the misery they leave behind?

The media often cries out against the compliant masses who embrace the status quo, yet the same paper will criticize the local individual who took the law into their own hands to avenge an injustice against them or their family? The first place where psychology reveals the causes of certain people's dark actions is developmental. In this framework, childhood is the key factor in action; because the dog kicker was not treated or cared about, he treats the dog in the same way.

That they had been subjected to cruelty, sexual abuse, or lack of social education during their formative years. That these same transgressors were victims of bullying at school and must therefore act out their own frustration on those who are weaker than themselves in society.

The problem we have to raise here is why certain offenders, in reality, most of them, tend to be law-abiding people, and it is just the minority who are the monsters that murder and mutilate for developmental error reasons? Many scientists like to point to a genetic factor in conduct at this point. This has been around for some time now. Serial offenders have proof that they also have an excess Y chromosome (men) that gives them a high level of testosterone that contributes to aggressive outbursts in stressful circumstances, where they use anxiety and panic as the means to having what they need.

However, this is a statistically minute percentage of violent criminals, although this may be higher in the general prison population.

All genetic research thus far has led to genetic factors being speculated on, but with no firm evidence to back up the claims. The most frequently cited data suggests that there are strong incidences of identical actions and effects from twin experiments where twins differ at birth.

Also as a proportion of twins born and observed, this data is low for hereditary determinism and strong for identical developmental conditions, so twins encountering situations that are so accommodating that if they turn out differently from each other, it is more likely to be a shock. And if we exclude developmental effects and inherited predispositions, what makes certain individuals exhibit socially appropriate attitudes, and others that meet all the demands of society?

That is also the propositional situation that makes it impossible for psychology to often see the universe as a benevolent perspective in a deterministic manner, and that, in reality, it is maybe in the truth that the natural conduct of humans in a number of conditions is to be cruel, deceitful, abusive and inclined towards criminal behavior. These values are outliers in a stable community in which all are treated socially as well as in race or gender.

The Survivalist Psychology

There are many, in the US particularly, who see the destruction of humanity as a distinct possibility if they support nuclear devastation (or possibly bio-warfare) or the collapse in capitalism contributing to societal instability and civil unrest. Such people are also called survivalists.

They store guns against the uncontrollable crowds that will wander the world to the risk of economic meltdown crises in the case of social unrest and food. The survivalists claim that in the event of social collapse and the absence of security laws, they have a constitutional right to defend themselves and their communities. Such groups or individuals sometimes disagree with current legal laws that are applied by federal agencies, such as the FBI.

Hence, the mindset of the victim is on one side in the dispute with culture, and on the other, perceived as
