    About the Author

My older brother Will was being a 14 year old pain!  All he wanted to do was collect plant samples, seeds and cuttings and we had to stick together.  I always wanted to explore! For two days he led us around the hills and pathways and picked what he wanted.

But let me introduce us all: William and Maddie are the oldest and are twins, then came Aiden and lastly us three identical triplets, Ava, Ella and me – Layla. We have all been blessed with high IQ’s. Khomotso was our nurse when we were all young and later drove us everywhere - to school, to varsity and more. Mom and Dad run a dairy farm and herbal business.  Zanele works on the farm where she met her husband and her parents, Dumisani and Bongie, joined them there too. Bongie is an African herbalist and she and Mom work together while Dumisani works in the dairy making cheeses.

But we are all different, my 5 siblings and I. Ella just wanted to read and Ava and Madison were talking about the oceans and fish.  Mom and Dad had brought us to the seaside for a week’s holiday. Ava and Madison were always in the water and rock pools. Aiden was more a night owl, looking up at the sky with Dad and talking stars and galaxies.

Whenever we went to the sea, I walked the dunes finding dead fish and birds and performed autopsies and checked fly larvae to determine length of time since it died. I made notes in my notebook and spent time online checking my findings. If we were in the hills, I found other things
