The Subjunctive Mood
Spanish subjunctive is used to talk about desires, doubts, the unknown, the abstract and some emotions. The subjunctive includes many of the same tenses as the indicative, We’re only going to learn the present subjunctive tense and a past subjunctive tense, used in conditional sentences.
For English speakers , sometimes the subjunctive can be difficult to understand, but with practice you’ll get it. To start, try to remember the following situations where you have to use it:
In sentences with two subjects: Sentences with one subject in the main clause and one in the noun clause use subjunctive.
When sentences are linked with a relative pronoun: Sentences that have parts linked by a relative pronoun (que, quien, como).
When sentences have two verbs, and the first one expresses wishes, emotions, impersonal expressions, recommendations, doubt and denial.
Examples
I NEED YOU TO DO SOMETHING for me - Necesito que hagas algo por mí
He wants me to buy him the new videogame console - Él quiere que le compre la nueva consola de videojuegos
