    Chapter 1: Spelling and Pronunciation

Spanish is considered one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn. But one must remember that learning a new language is never easy. It takes time and dedication.

The key to success in learning a new language is to take baby steps. If you start at the most basic, then you can slowly but definitely make progress.

    The Alphabet

The English and Spanish languages share the same alphabet but with quite a few differences. A lot of the letter are used or pronounced differently from what you’re used to.

    Vowels

One of the biggest differences between Spanish and English languages is the way the vowels are pronounced. In English, a vowel can have more than one sound. Syllabification

All Spanish syllables contain at least one vowel. Here are the rules for syllabification:

If a single consonant is followed by a vowel, group that consonant with the following vowel.

If two consonants follow each other, split them between two syllables. The exceptions are bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fl, fr, gl, gr, pl, pr, and dr. Ll and rr are also never divided and always counted as a single consonant.

Unlike in English, s is never considered part of the same syllable as
