YOUR NEW FRIEND
This is Mister Amigo. He speaks both SPANISH and English. You can find him on many pages in this eBook. He will give you secrets about SPANISH, so that you can learn it easily—and very fast!
ABOUT THIS eBOOK
Today is a very special day. You are going to learn a new language called SPANISH.
The language you speak is called English. But many people in the world don’t speak English. They speak other languages—like French, Chinese, or SPANISH!
This eBook will teach you how to understand and speak SPANISH. If you learn a little SPANISH every day, soon you will know two languages instead of one!
EXERCISES
You will find many exercises that will help you learn quickly. Keep a pen and paper close at hand.
Here are the many countries where people speak SPANISH. Each Spanish-speaking country has a number. Look how many there are!
This eBook also has a VOCABULARY LIST of SPANISH and ENGLISH words. Whenever you forget how to say something, you can look it up in the VOCABULARY LIST, which is found at the back Just click here.
THE SUPER SOUNDS OF SPANISH
These are the five most important sounds of SPANISH. Once you learn them, you will be able to understand, speak, and read SPANISH words correctly.
The letters look just like English, but in SPANISH they have a very different sound. Go ahead, say each one aloud three times.
A (like ah
) The doctor tells the boy to say ah.
E (like eh
) The man who cannot hear well says eh.
I (like ee
) The girl who is scared says ee.
O (like oh
) The lady who is surprised says oh.
U (like oo
) At night the owl says oo.
Here’s what these SUPER SOUNDS look like inside SPANISH words. Can you say each one correctly?
Do you know what these words mean in English?
Look them up in the VOCABULARY LIST if you need to.
Let’s learn some other sounds in SPANISH.
Practice each word three times, and notice what it means in English!
The letter J sounds like an H,
like in the word happy.
The letter H in Spanish has no sound at all:
The letter Z sounds just like an S
:
And the letter V in SPANISH sounds more like a B
:
Remember that people will understand you even if your words aren’t perfect, so just do the best you can!
Go ahead—write the correct SPANISH word on a plece of paper and then turn the eBook around to see the answers.
Some SPANISH sounds are a little harder to say. These letters look funny, so be careful when you read each word aloud:
The SPANISH letter LL sounds a lot like a Y,
like in the word yes.
