Very clear and concise. Although I am only at 35% complete, this very enjoyable and informative course is getting better the the further I go! I took 3 years of Spanish in High School and this was a good refresh for me plus I learn even more...:)

We spend a few months of most years in Spain, so I already speak a lot of Spanish. I've never taken a formal course, however; learning has mostly been just from conversation. I hesitated to buy this audiobook because I already speak so much, but I bought it because I know that I have lots of gaps to fill.

Surprise: It's helping so much! In a matter of days, I've corrected heaps of mistakes I didn't even realize I was making. I can only imagine how helpful this would be if I'd started out with a course like this. Better late than never! ?

I have tried many products on my quest to learn Spanish. This one is the best! It was easy to follow and perfect to listen to on my commute to work. What I am most impressed with is that I retained the learning whereas with other methods I did not. Highly recommended!

Pronunciation is the Key

Spanish pronunciation is really simple in comparison to other languages. The Spanish alphabet contains 27 letters, most of which are pronounced in only one way. Nonetheless, there are a few exceptions, which we will cover in this section.

Vowels

The letter a is always pronounced like the a in apricot. You will find this sound in words like casa (house).

The letter e is always pronounced as the e in elephant. You will find this sound in words like verde (green).

The letter i always sounds like the i in intelligence or the ee in meet (when it’s stressed). You can find this sound in words like inglés (English), argentino (Argentinian), or salir (to go out).

The letter o always sounds like the o in tongue. You can find this sound in words like tomate (tomato) and vaso (glass).

The letter u always sounds like the oo in pool or like English w in water. You can find this sound in words like luna (moon) and usar (to use).

Consonants

The letter b in Spanish is similar to letter b in English, but while in English it sounds harder when it’s in the beginning of a word (as in beautiful), in Spanish it’s always a soft sound (as in cabin). You will find it in words like bebé (baby).

The letter c in Spanish can have three sounds: The first is like the c in cut. The letter c always sounds like this when it comes before letters a, o, u and consonants (except h), as in words like cama (bed), cosa (thing), cuento (tale) and acto.

The second c sound is the same as the s sound. It sounds like this when it comes before letters e and i, as in cerilla (match) or cien (a hundred).

The third sound is only possible when c comes before an h, just as it happens in English. The combination of c and h sounds like ch in change. You will find this in words like colchón (mattress).

The letter d in Spanish is similar to d in English (as in daisy) but softer. You can find it in words such as dedo (finger).

The letter f in Spanish sounds like f in English, in words such as fish. You will find this sound in Spanish words like feliz (happy).

The letter g in Spanish can have two different sounds: When it comes before letters a, o, u and consonants it sounds like a soft version of the English g sound in green. You can find this sound in words like gato (cat), gota (drop), gusto (taste) and gracias (thanks). You also get this sound when you have the combination of letters gue and gui. In these cases, the u is not pronounced, just as it happens in English in guest or guilty. You can find this sound in Spanish in words such as guerra (war) and guitarra (guitar). The u is only pronounced when there’s a dieresis (two dots) on top of it, as in pingüino (penguin) or antigüedad (antique), but this is not very common.

The second g sound in Spanish is similar to the h sound in English word helicopter. You can find this sound when g comes before letters e and i, as in
