Poetry and Prose from My Heart - Elizabeth Redhead Phillip
As I Walk
As I walk, I talk to my God
Because I know He loves me.
He gives me breath, He gives me strength.
He is my rock.
He keeps me alive.
I stretch out my hands.
I said, Lord, what a marvelous sky!
I look up for His love.
The moon, the sky, and the sun You created.
You gave us the earth.
You laid out the foundation for us.
You gave us everything.
And what did we do?
Men have destroyed Your marvelous work here on earth.
Will the world ever be the same?
Will we ever be safe again?
II
On Seeing Disaster
I have lived to reach 50 years. My life has just begun. I am walking on solid ground.
My goal in life is to help all people; my aim is to fight for my people.
I have seen lives fall apart; I have seen disaster strike.
People are slipping away, facing danger every day.
Earthquakes, hurricanes.
I have seen people wash away.
What could one do but pray?
Some are crying out because they are hungry and do not have any food to eat.
Those food pantries are all empty.
There is no food to feed the needy.
People are losing their homes.
Some are living in shelters.
But when these shelters are full, where will these poor people go?
Will there be any place left for them to rest their weary heads?
Only God knows how they will get out from these troubled times.
III
My God, My God Is Great
My God is, my God is great.
He keeps my bones in shape.
He keeps me strong; He keeps me in shape; He is great.
When I am weak, He holds my limbs in place.
He keeps them firm.
There were times my feet got weak; I could not walk a block.
But now I can feel some changes in my limbs.
They are stronger, they keep me up, they keep me on the road.
Age sometimes causes those weary limbs to crack.
If I did not move or stay busy, I would lose my balance.
I take my calcium every day to help me always stay in shape.
So if I continue walking every day and taking my calcium for my bones,
I will not have to worry about my weary limbs again.
IV
Come Dream With Me
Hold my hands; come dream with me. Walk with me; stay with me.
Lie next to me; follow me to where the grass is green,
where you can rest your weary head next to mine.
We would share sweet dreams together. We would see what the future has in store for us.
Our lives would get much healthier. The grass would always stay green.
The both of us would prepare to take a journey.
Our dreams would stay alive. I would make you stronger each and every night.
I would whisper a love song in your ears at night. You would sleep like a baby.
Our song would be a song to remember. As I said:
"Hold my hands; come with me; let’s dream together.
Come dream with me each night.
Show me how much you care.
Dream with me night after night."
Come lay your weary head next to mine; keep me warm all night.
Whisper in my ears; I will sing to you.
Come celebrate our lives together, just you and I.

My Brain Is Working 24 Hours
My brain is working beautifully; it is working all through the year. It sends out great information so I can pass it on to others. It keeps me on the right track so I will not be confused. That is why I always think positively. Being positive will keep me in control of my life. It will help me to concentrate on a great journey with health, love, happiness, understanding, and kindness. However, my brain keeps me focusing on a brighter future, on great adventures, bigger dreams, a better job, business, education, and to be successful in whatever I lay my hands on. I believe I will be blessed. As my brain gives me this great information, I write it down. I keep a journal on my end table next to my bed, so whenever my brain passes on any information to me, and it seems very interesting, I write it in my journal so I don’t miss out on anything.
There are some other great ideas that keep coming up once in a while. It says to me I can create a masterpiece. I can build an empire with hundreds of rooms and windows, an empire made of white marble and gold. Everything inside the house is made of white marble and gold. Even the floors are gold.
In the front of my empire would be the shape of a square made from white marble and gold. And the back of my empire would be an extension, with a large porch made from the same marble and gold. There would be seats for hundreds of people. Everyone would be welcome to come into my empire; people from all walks of life would come in just the way they are. The poor, the homeless—all nationalities would be welcome. We would pray together. As the Bible says, do not worry about what you might eat or what you may drink because our heavenly Father knows that we need all this; He would provide enough food to feed everyone. I would be known as the lady with the brain that works as a magnet, who receives information in less than a second that keeps me on the right track so that I would always stay positive.

Walk with Your Head Up
Keep your head up as you walk, young lady. Step with your shoulders up. Be a sophisticated lady.
Because you are a lady of knowledge.
Remember your ancestors that they were slaves, working the plantation 24 hours nonstop.
My dear lady, there is no turning back now.
These years are all gone, long, long before your parents and I were ever born. Times have changed and so have we. But we have to go on.
We gave so much, and we got nothing in return.
But our guardian angel is taking notes, preparing a place for us to have a good rest.
Whenever we do get tired, she will carry us on her wings because she cannot bear to see us in pain.

If You Could Only Fly with Me
If you could only fly with me, up in the great blue sky.
I would sweep you off your feet.
I would send my airplane to lift you up millions of miles away.
We would see the world together and enjoy the nature of this world.
We would look out the windows at all the bodies of water that
