About this ebook

This book contains original poems given to the me by inspiration of The Holy Spirit. In it are poems about Biblical Characters and adaptations of the scriptures. It also contains poetic recitations with a Biblical perspective performed by the in local churches in his area. I feel a need to share the Word of God in verse to a lost and hurting world. I pray that this book will be as much of a blessing to the reader as it has been to the writer. As I was having the cover picture taken for my book, I was again reminded about the importance of daily prayer and meditation upon the Lord and His goodness. This photo was taken in "My Secret Place" where I go (not often enough I might add) to commune with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Unless you have your own place where you commune with God on a daily basis you can never realize the fullness of His greatness and His mercy. Go without pretense, God knows who you are, He made you and He wants to hear from YOU! May God richly bless you through these simple poems penned down by a simple country preacher who preaches about a Great and Awesome God!

Author

Rev. Thomas L. Holt

Born in Cleveland Ohio we moved out west to Torrance California which is a suburb of Los Angeles in 1963 to due my older sister having asthma. We left California in 1966 and moved to East Tennessee where my father was born and raised. We were share croppers and lived in tenant housing until 1970 when we moved to the Lakeway area of East Tennessee. My occupation has been very diverse, working from every thing from loading trucks to selling cars. I am not an intellectual person, I am just a plain old every day Joe that has made a living from "the sweat of my face." God has blessed me richly by giving me these simple little poems and recitations. This book will most likely never be on the best sellers list or bring me fame and fortune, but if I can touch someone's heart by giving them what is in my heart, then I have accomplished my mission. "For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth from out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." KJV 1611 Isaiah 55:10-11. This is my purpose to put forth God's Word. I am a simple country preacher that felt inspired by God to write things down that were given to me by unction of the Holy Spirit. I was 'Born Again" at age 10 in a little country church named "Bear Creek" in a rural area of Cocke County, Tennessee. I was later called to preach the gospel at age 12, and have been ministering in different local churches for 38 years. I am married (to a coal miner's daughter) to Judy (Lane) from Clay County West Virginia. We are the parents of three sons and have been blessed with two grandsons. We reside in East Tennessee and enjoy ministering through the preached word, song and poetic recitations. I have pastored several local churches and am currently "in between assignments."

    A MOTHER’S LOVE

    You’ve dried our tears,

    You’ve shared our joys,

    You’ve raised us up

    To men from boys.

    You’ve cheered me up

    When I was down,

    When it seemed a friend

    Could not be found.

    Of all the gifts

    From God above,

    There’s none so great

    As a mother’s Love!

    ACHAN’S SIN

    Joshua and the people,

    Fought against old Jericho.

    They marched around it

    *Thirteen times,

    With trumpets they did blow.

    The walls they did

    Come tumbling down,

    As Joshua said they would.

The people up to do God’s will,

But one up to no good!

The Lord had said to Israel,

    "Touch not the curs-ed thing,

For if you do you’ll surely sin,

    And reproach upon me bring."

    But Achan, did not listen,

His heart full of sin & strife,

And when they fought with Ai,

    Thirty-six men lost their life.

So Joshua, he fell to the earth,

    Before God’s Holy Ark.

He fell on his face at morning,

And he lay there ‘til ‘twas dark.

    So God said unto Joshua,

    Why liest on the ground?

"It is my people, they have sinned,

The cursed thing must be found!"

So they took them tribe- by- tribe,

    Then later, man –by- man.

And when it all was said and done,

    It came down to Ach-an.

    "What hast thou done,

    That brought the curse?"

"Give God the praise tell us,

    And make confession unto him."

He said, I’ve done thus and thus

    "I saw among Jericho’s spoils,

    A garment rare indeed."

"I saw some silver and some gold,

My heart was filled with greed!

"I took and hid it in my tent,

    And covered it with dirt."

"With all this, spoil it isn’t much,

I said, what can it hurt?"

    They took and fetched it,

    From his tent,

And spread it ‘fore the Lord.

And he the people stoned with stones,

    According to God’s word.

‘Tis love of gold that’s evil’s root.

    The scriptures plainly say.

    If Achan, had remembered this,

    He might still live today!

    REV.
