Well, quite. What do you think the existence of a list like this says about the progress we’ve made?
When I came out, pretty much all anyone talked about was the death of my career. There are now lesbians in every walk of life who are out and proud and living their lives, and it’s thrilling. That is wonderful. But I always temper that by saying we have to remember that, worldwide, there are still massive problems, and it’s not to say that lesbians in this country don’t suffer from micro-aggressions, micro-homophobia, every day of their lives.
