Barron Wendy

Wendy Barron was born in the United Kingdom in 1971. She lost her mother when she was 18 months old and then moved to Perth, Western Australia at the age of three with her father, step-mother and older sister Claire. There she attended St Bridget's Ladies College until the age of 17. When Wendy was 19 she moved to Brisbane, Queensland where she currently lives with her daughter Piper and their handsome little dog Jaxson. Wendy spent 16 years in the corporate world working in both the IT and the audio visual industry before quitting her job, selling everything she owned and travelling the world fulltime for nearly two years. Throughout her journey of visiting 15 countries, Wendy was struck with the idea of becoming a personal trainer one evening whilst lying back watching the sunset on a boat in Guatemala. Struggling to always find that balance between work and play herself, over the many years in the corporate industry, Wendy found that time to exercise, daily healthy nutrition and a positive and happy mindset offered her some relief from a stressful work life. However, she understands that it is easier said than done and for those who are not self-motivated or do not know where to start often find it all gets put in the "TOO HARD BASKET". Wendy has only become serious about helping others with their health and fitness since studying to be an Executive Master Trainer at the Australian Institute of Fitness in 2008. Since becoming a mum to her daughter Piper in 2009, she became even more motivated and launched her own successful personal training business, Mind Body Space. Wendy went on to become a boxing instructor, a Metafit group fitness instructor, yin yoga instructor and a weight management consultant as well as running successful women's health, fitness and yoga retreats a couple of times a year on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Wendy is passionate about the human potential and is often referred to as a transformation warrior because she helps many people transform their lives both physically and mentally. Traditionally personal trainers work from the outside in but Wendy takes a unique approach and enjoys working with her clients from the inside out. She is a guru at energising bodies and minds with her inspiring, positive and vibrant energy. Wendy believes that life is abundantly delicious and that everyone deserves to wake up every morning feeling happy and healthy.

    Rocket Fuel - Barron Wendy

    Introduction

How The Pocket Rocket Got Her Rocket Fuel

Iwasn’t always this healthy with boundless amounts of energy, and I certainly didn’t look after myself or love myself the way I do today.

I have learnt many of life’s lessons the hard way. Life felt like one massive struggle. Working so hard rowing my boat up the stream of life, I didn’t trust anyone, not even myself. My journey has been one of tenacity and personal growth.

Now I am immensely happy sailing my boat down the river of life, in complete harmony with the ebbs and flows that come my way. Using my feelings as my feedback mechanism I am reaping the rewards of a happy and healthy life where I feel like anything and everything is possible.

There were pivotal moments that have shaped my life. When I look back at old photographs from when I was a child I was often seen with a very bloated stomach. I was a tired and irritable child and I know I caused my parents great stress, especially at mealtimes. I often felt unwell throughout my teenage years, suffering from severe abdominal pain and wind and would fall asleep during class. The doctors suspected I had a cyst on my ovaries, then appendicitis. Nothing was found despite the many invasive tests.

When I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease at the age of 19, I was relieved to find out what had been troubling me all these years. While I didn’t understand what it was, it was a great relief to finally find out what had been making me so unwell throughout my childhood.

Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune disease that affects the finger-like projections called villi that line the inside of your digestive tract. When gluten is consumed it kills these villi, which means that the nutrients in your food do not get absorbed. It just sits in the digestive tract and ferments.

Coeliac Disease is simply controlled by following a strict gluten-free diet, which allows the villi to return to normal and begin to absorb the nutrients in your food again. On a gluten-free diet you avoid consuming food that contains anything made from oats, wheat, rye, barley and malt. The availability of labelled gluten-free food in supermarkets, restaurants and coffee shops today is ample, but it was not always like that.

Thirty years ago, The Coeliac Society of Australia pushed for labelling on packaged food to help identify gluten-free products. A shaft of wheat inside a circle, with a line through it, became the symbol used by manufacturers to identify gluten-free food. More and more food manufactures adopted the symbol. Now there is an extensive selection of easily identifiable gluten-free foods available. Unfortunately, a lot of it is heavily processed and manufactured, which are generally foods I stay away from.

Another defining moment in my life was losing my mum when I was 11 months old. Growing up I had a very loving and supportive stepmother.

And I am blessed beyond words to now have my own daughter Piper. To watch her grow up is a gift only a parent can know. But one thing I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams is that I would be a single parent.

When I look back now, I wonder how I managed. Those first three years were the toughest but also the most rewarding. I remember waking up one night to feed Piper feeling so sleep deprived and exhausted. I walked into the edge of an open door, hit my head hard and fell back on my bum. I lay there laughing at myself, at how helpless I felt being a single parent and juggling a business as well. I could have given up, but I picked myself up and got on with her night-time feed.

A year later I was triggered again. The dam burst and I sobbed uncontrollably for 40 minutes. I had held it together for so long but with the support of a good friend I felt safe to let it all out, releasing all the anger, frustration, guilt, hurt and disconnection I had been feeling.

It was a soul-cleansing experience and I felt so light spiritually, mentally and physically afterwards. Being a strong and tough woman helped me get through that rough time of my life. I chose to stop trying to be a superwoman. I am a woman who is filled with love, compassion, self-love, resilience and purpose, who is not too proud to ask for a helping hand.

Before I had my daughter, I decided that I had had enough of the rat race after working 16 years in the IT and Audio-Visual Industry. I realised if I stayed any longer that spark inside me would die so I sold all my possessions and travelled the world for two years. It was the first time in my life that I felt truly free.

This experience made me realise how easy it could have been as a single parent to neglect my health and well-being working long hours, the pressure of building a career, raising a family and running a household.

The struggle of the juggle is real. Without the right tools, support and structure, making our physical and mental health and well-being a priority is a tough journey to embark upon. Many battle to know where to start or even how to stay on track.

Most people are looking for a quick fix.

If we know what we can do to become strong, slim and healthy, what is stopping so many from achieving it?

Is it our lack of will, our lack of desire, our lack of knowledge and motivation or does the problem lie within? Do we simply prefer to tell and endure our failing stories over and over again? What if we take 100% responsibility for where we are and who we are and learn to master our ability to change? The question is: what do you truly want and what are you prepared to do to achieve it?

Keep searching for the magic pill, right? Wrong! What do we learn through quick fixes?

Absolutely nothing! Life is a journey not a destination, which means we have lessons to learn and things to process along the way in order to achieve rather than just arriving at our destination without the wisdom. It’s not to say life needs to be a struggle but it’s about knowing what it takes to not only achieve ultimate health and well-being but also how to sustain it.

It takes 80% nutrition, 20% exercise and 100% mindset.

What do we want or need to change in order to take the first step? If you want something to change then you have to do something different to achieve a different outcome.

Many people don’t embrace change or don’t want to do the work required to change. Did someone just say work? Most people want that quick fix and are unable to sustain the self-discipline required to see or feel the benefits of whatever they wish to achieve.

But if you want something that badly then surely you are willing to take the action required to replace the old with the new. You can’t buy or put a price on what being healthy feels like, which is why you have to work for it. Many of my clients ask me to help them get back to a place they remember feeling years ago. Not only in terms of weight and fitness but also in that energy-filled, healthy feeling that many of us know feels good.

In this book we will look at how to restore balance and to create divine order in life. Life is like a river. If you are always trying to swim upstream you will struggle and eventually you will burn out. Instead go with the flow of life to restore energy and provide peace and harmony.

As a personal trainer, metabolic group fitness instructor, weight management and lifestyle coach, author, entrepreneur and single parent, I have chosen to share my knowledge and wisdom about how to integrate and balance a healthy lifestyle in a busy and fast-paced world.

I believe passionately that you need a sharp mind, a positive attitude, a fit and strong body to reach your full potential. I now teach and inspire others to restore balance, health and harmony, so they can wake up every morning and live an abundantly delicious life.

What do you want out of life?

How do you want to feel?

What are you prepared to do to achieve it?

Rocket Fuel will help you get back to basics, to live a happier and healthier lifestyle. My 5 Essential Pillars will leave you feeling empowered, in control and will bring divine order in all areas of your life.

I am nicknamed The Pocket Rocket because I have boundless amounts of energy Whatever you’re on, I want some, people often tell me. I have learnt to use and share my energy wisely and also how to restore and replenish it when required. I do this through nutrition, movement, personal power over my mindset, rest and relaxation and through the people, places and things that are around me – my space! To summarise, I have created divine order in my life that gives me the freedom and control to serve myself every day!

I do not live and breathe this every day. About 80% of the time works for me. I love to relax when I have the time, let the house get a little untidy and on occasions not know what’s for dinner that night. I enjoy holidays where we unplug and enjoy everything life has to offer: the sunshine, new experiences, laughter and quality time with those I love. On these occasions I like letting go of our routine but I do look forward to getting back on track, to maintain the order that I am accustomed to once I am recharged and ready to go again.

During these downtimes I reset, re-evaluate and recharge. I take time to connect with myself and my purpose and drop into my heart space to listen and feel what’s going on. I allow myself to address what I really want and where I am heading and make sure I am on the right path. Taking time out to do this means

we don’t waste time swimming upstream or going through life without a purpose.

I constantly teach my daughter values and beliefs that will empower her to make educated decisions and how to live a life filled with education, choices, self-empowerment, self-love and ultimately the ability to live the life of her dreams that is filled with oodles of love, health, happiness and purpose. And I wish you the very same in your life.
