Haley sat smoking like a gentleman uphanded some would have said effeminate. Sitting comfortably in fatigues. He stared at the computer screen and their blood slides each marked with their names.

Yes, well, I suppose you both can come out of there now. You're clean.

Haley pushed a button opening the airlock. A thick tumbler slid and activated the door. Aaron and Etienne, now dressed in fatigues, stepped out into the mobile's centre.

Yes, everything is as it should be. Haley stared at Aaron's sample filled with swimming HIV mines. He deleted it from the computer file. It was a precaution.

So that means the mutated virus— started Etienne.


Didn't last in an oxygen environment, finished Haley. Yes, it appears so.


Aaron and Etienne appear behind Haley, staring at the screen.


Etienne turned to Aaron. I could kiss you, he said proudly. Aaron didn't abandon him.

You already did, Haley replied drolly.


Actually, I was hoping for something more, Aaron quipped.


Oh, yes, I'm sure that will go over well with the Lieutenant. Haley's sarcasm. Can you two please wait ‘til we get back to the States?


Aaron and Etienne smiled. Haley began to run a computer model.


Look here. Here is Lane's blood. Haley pointed to his screen. See, the virus mutated, piercing his alveoli—


Like we saw before, said Etienne.


Yes, and here's another, Haley continued. Thankfully, he took several samples as he was dying.


Aaron and Etienne looked at each other. Then gasped at the rate of acceleration of the mutated virus that flashed before them reflected in their eyes.
