Chapter 13

Upstairs in the Cantina. A bedroom. Morning.

Pancho y Lefty lay in bed together under a spinning ceiling fan. It did little to take away the heat. The sunlight shooting into the room and pain into their brainpans.

Oh, my aching head—


I told dyou to not drink de worm, but dyou, would not listen.


Well next time shoot me.


Lefty sat up grabbing hold of a pitcher. Pouring water into his nearby Stetson Cinch. He placed the hat on his head dousing himself with cool water.


Ahhh.... much better. Back in bed.


There came a knocking at their door.


Who could that be at dis God forsaken hora?


Whoever it is— Lefty pulled the cowboy hat over his eyes. Tell 'em to get lost.

More knocking.

And tell them to quit pounding on the door. People are trying to sleep in here! Ah— groaning from his head.

Dyou answer it. Pancho unwilling to move.

You. You speak the language—

So do dyou. Pancho insisted.


Better than I. Lefty continued. I can only curse. More pounding. Hurting his head. On second thought that may come in handy. Lefty pulled himself off the bed.


Who es it? Pancho asked annoyed.


Through the muffled door came an answer.

Esposa...

Pancho immediately panicked.


Esposa? Oh, mi God...


Lefty stood naked at the door covering himself with his cowboy hat.


What does that mean? Lefty asked, not a clue.
