Prologue

There was a terrible winding sound of an engine throttling it gears pressed beyond hope. A grinding shrill in only the way metal knew how to scream as it was failing. A helicopter in peril. Falling from the sky.

The ground whirled upwards. Dizzying and spinning as the black copter rotated downwards toward Sunnyvale. Inside the cockpit, amidst angry alarms that buzzed. Insect like. Had the pilots been able to see it was a rural tranquil place with strangely empty storefronts. Beckoned.

The last edition of the Sunnyvale Daily blowing down an otherwise impeccably clean. Main Street. General store. Post office. City Hall. Police station. All vacant.

Back in the copter, clutching the cabin skin with one of his large hands, the other, held tight his military-issued Glock, Benjamin Alixor. His square jaw clenched even tighter seeing the ground rising up fast.
