      The burnt orange doors flew open. Helios and Roland stepped into the reception area to find Chauncey and old man Adelson argy-bargy.

      Now I know I had an appointment? Chauncey shrilled.

      Chaunce! What are you doing here? Roland ruminated.

      I was just going to ask you the same thing. That and— His eyes dropped. What're you wearing? Besides not much?

      We need to talk, Roland replied weak. But not here. He ushered Chauncey.

      It's kind of a new look for you. Don’t you think?

      And not now. Roland continued with a whisper.

      You know I can guess your religious faith from here. Chauncey’s eyes prying.

      Roland’s hand covering his gold leaf with a self-conscious tug.

      We can't be late. Helios admonished. Don't want to keep the board or the top dog waiting, now do we?

      Really, he's going to be there? Roland gestured. Ah? These are my friends.

      Okay. But only this once. Helios pulls out a Sharpie and signs Adelson's papers. He turns to Chauncey. And what's your name young man?

      Chase! Roland answered. Frantic. I thought you were supposed to be getting that thing cut out? Roland
