    As it exceptional as it is, this book is as reliable and interesting. It clarifies the 'vagueness' I easily associate with the Sirtfood diet. It tells me just what to eat on a daily basis, like what meals to prepare and when to eat them. It's one of my favourites, and it helps me stay on track with my diet. I have no reservations about what I need to do today or what I'll eat. That's incredible!

    This book piqued my interest because it detailed the benefits that extend beyond weight loss. I like how this book sets out a diet that encourages you to consume foods in moderation while also reaping the benefits.     I love the way this book presents the Science behind Sirtfood Diet and not merely focused on advertising it. Ashley also challenges the readers if this kind of diet is for them.     Who would want to get rid of their favorite foods for a diet? NO. I WILL NEVER. But in my mind I want to try diet too. How? When I can't live without a cup of coffee every morning, eat chocolates or consume 3-4 cups of rice every meal. Good thing, I found this book.     Dieting is on the trend nowadays and I've been seeing different methods on how this work. Sirt dieting, seriously is the first time I've read/listen and I think this is the best way to loose weight because while on a diet you will consume all the nutrients you need. Adding to this I learned that alcohol can also be a triggered to gained weight so after reading it, I will cut down using it while I'm my diet plan. PART ONE: What is the Sirtfood Diet?

Chapter 1: The Sirtfood Diet

Before we discuss popular sirtfoods and meal plans, it is essential to understand this nutrition plan's mechanism, that is far more complex than consuming fewer calories than you burn. Sirtfoods include sirtuins, which are proteins known for protecting the body cells against inflammation, stress, and aging.

Helped by the Sirtfood Diet, many celebrities and notable figures swear by this way of eating. Even though it was discovered in 2016, the world became more aware recently. It was developed by health experts Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten, who focus on healthy eating. The idea is to turn on your skinny gene which means activating the sirtuin compounds discovered in your body to boost metabolism, reduce inflammation, cut fat, curb appetite, and lose weight.

Sirtuins are one of the many protein groups naturally created in the body, like hemoglobin. Although they don’t directly cause weight loss, they regulate cellular health. One of the side effects of being activated through certain food groups is consistent weight loss until the individual in question reaches a healthy weight. Contrary to popular belief, they are not a type of dietary protein.

Sirtuins were discovered no more than 20 years ago, so it’s safe to say that the Sirtfood Diet is still in the experimental phase. Although, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that confirms the efficacy of the plan.

A simple way to understand how this group works is to think of it as part of a system with different departments – those being protein groups. Hemoglobin is a department that transports oxygen to cells; sirtuins are another branch that removes acetyl groups from proteins with a compound known as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or simply NAD+. We can think of it as the currency sirtuins need to function. Because NAD+ levels decline with age, this also helps to maintain those levels. As a result, the dieter benefits from glowing skin and a fitter body. The process is also identified as deacetylation, seeing as sirtuins primarily work to remove acetyl groups such as histones responsible for leaving the chromatin of body cells open and thus vulnerable. When histones are not removed, they can cause weight gain and premature aging. This is where the Sirtfood Diet comes to the rescue.

Goggins and Matten conducted a study in 2015 on 39 participants and the effect of sirtuins on individual bodies. They discovered that on average, all people lost seven pounds in a week. This claim was based on a short-term investigation partly due to introducing calorie restriction.

While the primary aim of this way of eating is to lose weight through healthy choices, the effect is maximized by introducing sirtuin-activating foods into your meals. In the presence of sirtuins, you will lose weight and benefit from anti-aging effects and the reduction of inflammation levels in your body.

How Is Your Body Affected by the Sirtfood Diet?

Sirtfood demands a major calorie restriction in the first week (with a caloric limit of 1,000 calories) and focuses on healthy eating. Experts recommend this as a long-term fitness plan (even though it's difficult to maintain) as it focuses more on following a healthy lifestyle and less on weight loss. Once you follow this diet for a few weeks, you will lose weight and become fitter, but since it restricts calories in the first week, dieters can experience a massive drop on the scale in the first week. The difference in body weight is mainly due to water loss, not actual loss of body fat.

You will notice a remarkable change in your body weight by the end of the first week because the glycogen molecules extracted from the food you eat usually require around three to four molecules of water as storage. We need glycogen to carry out day-to-day bodily functions and meet physical and mental energy needs. When on a calorie-restricted plan, the body uses up all maximum glycogen along with the water it stores, which significantly reduces water content, ultimately shedding a massive amount of water weight. This is why you will notice a difference on the scale after just one week of beginning the Sirtfood Diet.

When you return to a diet plan with a regular caloric intake, the glycogen molecules in your body retain the water particles, and you will notice your weight returning to normal. A low-calorie diet results in a lower metabolic rate, resulting in weight loss and the burning of body fat. To successfully shed weight, distribute your meals throughout the day. As soon as you eat, your body’s metabolic rate increases and burns calories; This is why you may feel warm after eating. Another way to increase your metabolic rate is to incorporate exercise to your every-day routine. The metabolic rate of your body thus increases for a prolonged period after your workout session.

Since your body is on a major calorie restriction for the first couple of weeks, refrain from exercising as it can put too much stress on your body. If you already work out and don’t want to go back to square one, you can still incorporate mild exercises like walking and yoga.

Phases of the Sirtfood Diet

The Sirtfood Diet is divided into two phases:

Phase 1: This lasts for the first seven days of your daily routine and requires you to eat 1,000 calories in a day. These calories are distributed throughout the day and consumed through three glasses of green juice and one main sirtfood meal (keep reading to learn more about green juices, sirtfood meals and how to make them). The next four days, you may consume 1,500 calories throughout the day, including two green juices and two sirtfood meals. During this phase, you lose around five to ten pounds within seven days, which is mostly your water weight. You may notice that your face is more sculpted and your belly is less bloated. The success of Phase 1 determines the end results, which can be achieved within the two weeks.

Phase 2: The second phase focuses more on maintaining your weight loss and is carried out over the following 14 days. Once you endure the first week, which is also the most difficult and important phase, you can switch to three sirtfood meals and one green juice a day. You’ll continue to consume the same types of ingredients, sirtfoods, and a glass of green juice over the next 14 days. You must maintain the calorie and nutrient count over these two weeks; this is why it is called the maintenance phase. If followed consistently, you can maintain weight loss during this time and turn your new diet into a permanent, healthy way of eating.
