Spiritualized Business
Business. What is business? A definition I would like to share with you is: business is a systematic process enabling an individual who is self employed or a group of people employed together to manifest a desire. What, then, is a spiritualized business? Obviously, it depends on the motive or the ultimate desire of the company.
If the desire of the company is to offer a product or service that will in some way be useful and reduce the inconvenience or suffering of others, or add to their happiness or enjoyment, then that business can be seen as spiritualized and meaningful. If at the same time the company increases the happiness and wellbeing of their employees and offers them meaningful work and sufficient capital to look after their responsibilities then that business is successful, and may be termed spiritualized since it is operating according to the divine plan.
What is the divine plan? The divine plan is unselfishness, mutual co-operation, seeking and acting for the benefit of others as well as pursuing one’s own happiness and satisfaction.
Another important factor that will add meaning and success and spiritualize a company is to offer the finest quality product and/or service, in the spirit of mutual co-operation, where everyone involved feels that they are a winner. If the founding members, employees and customers of a business all feel satisfied and mutually benefited, then the product or service offered is meaningful and is spiritualized.
If, however, a company is operating from a motive of selfishness, private profiteering, greed for money in ways that ultimately make people unhappy or lead them to be materially bound through unwholesome sense attractions, then it can no longer be considered desirable or meaningful and does not fit the definition of a spiritualized company.
Finding Spiritualized Work
How can you create meaningful and spiritualized work for yourself that will foster your talents and help you manifest your excellence? You have two options. The first is to create your own company that will offer a useful product and/or service. The second is to align yourself with a new or established company that offers a meaningful product and/or service that you can feel good about.
In both cases you need to be extremely clear about what you really want. In order to find a worthwhile desire or product that will lead to your success you need to go deep into your yearnings, aspirations and the dreams of your inner self to find and follow your true realization. Usually this has already been formulated between the ages of three and twelve. Sometimes this desire gets buried beneath other responsibilities or suggestions and pressures from outside sources. In far too many cases this causes individuals to go against their innate talents and the true desire of their heart that could lead them to success.
To connect with your true heart’s desire and to work in harmony with your soul-appointed tasks I recommend this formula. Sit quietly in the silence for a time. Then ask your Creator’s assistance to guide you, that you may discover what your true heart’s desire is and how you can manifest this outwardly in some unique and helpful product or service.
I often use Paramahansa Yogananda’s effective prayer for guidance and you are welcome to use it too. Creator I will reason, I will will, and I will act, but guide Thou, my reason, will and activity to the right thing that I should do.
After you have prayed, plunge deep into your thoughts and feelings. Search the vault of your memory and aspirations and see if you can detect a positive desire filling your mind and heart. If nothing seems to materialize then just think about what you really would like to do if money and time was no object. There are no restrictions on what you can do as long as it is rooted in wisdom.
By wisdom I simply mean that if whatever desire you decide to act upon will be useful and will be a benefit to yourself and make others happy then it will be a spiritualized decision. The product or service you offer will need to include the welfare of others in your own happiness and that is crucial to the success of what you do.
An Example of Creating a Spiritualized Business
A story of business success that inspired me was of Mr. Soichiro Honda. He had a dream that he wanted to sell his unique style of piston rings to the Toyota Corporation.
While he was still in school he invested all his money in building a small machine shop. He worked night and day and even sold his wife’s jewelry to keep his work going. Finally he presented his piston rings to the Toyota Corporation but they refused to buy them because the rings failed to meet their standards.
Mr. Honda went
