The Heart's Journey of Opening to Love

Manifesting an Open Heart

Everyone is on the journey of the heart. As you explore the stages of the heart you will be able to tell where you are along this sacred journey and what steps you can take to move forward in opening your heart to the fullness of its own natural love.

The nature of the heart, or center of feeling, is consciousness. It is our endowment with conscious awareness that allows us to feel, love and enjoy.

In the journey of the heart we progress through different stages of feeling and enjoyment. The Creator has implanted in our hearts a yearning that ensures our progression to deeper stages of unfoldment of the heart. The higher we advance spiritually the greater is our capacity for enjoyment. We are enthralled with subtler and subtler vibrations. Colors become more vibrant and brilliant; sounds more fascinating; feelings sweeter and more intense. Ultimately the heart’s yearning is to seek these more refined states of feeling and enjoyment until the heart is satisfied and content.

The ultimate contentment we are yearning for is contained within our own heart. The fulfillment of the journey of the heart is not a quest for something outward (although the heart progresses through outward stages) but is a natural unfoldment of virtues through purification of the heart. Everything we are looking for is already contained within our own heart. We need only to remember what we already possess.

There are definite stages in this unfolding, or remembering, of the Self. It is by change within oneself and reorientation from outwardly seeking to inwardly seeking that we awaken and realize the image of the Divine Consciousness within us. As we rediscover and feel and enjoy what we already have in the sanctuary of our own heart we begin to fully manifest inner virtues through acts of compassion in our dealings with the world. The heart opens to the fullness of love found in its own center and naturally wants to express this impartial and unconditional love to all.

Sublime feelings of love and bliss are the only states of awareness that can bring total contentment to the heart. The sweetest feeling we can have is the bliss of God.

In this first section of the Journey of the Heart we will affirm that we already have been created perfect and that all the treasures of the heart are already ours. We can Be these treasures and enjoy them. We will then look at the unfolding stages of the heart and how the virtues of the heart are cultivated.

As the heart opens, it unfolds to love, and we can come to love, appreciate and enjoy who we truly are. We come to understand and appreciate this state of the heart, the state we need to cultivate in order to attain liberation.

Your Sacred Journey Began When You Were Divinely Created

Your Creator made you out of Herself. You are a piece of God’s consciousness. Everything the Creator has you have also. Being made in the image of God, you possess all the powers and potentialities of the Spirit.

The Creator is beyond gender so use whatever term pleases you. In this book I have predominately used She, as I prefer to dwell on the Mother aspect of unconditional compassion and love. However, I have used many other terms for the Creator as well, so use whatever concept resonates with you.

The Creative Mother took a little portion of Her Infinite Consciousness and encased this essence of Herself in individuality, endowed with free will, to manifest you as a living soul. In this singular, loving act of creation God created the unique and special being that is you in Her image of perfection.

Your soul is like the Creator in every respect and your divine nature can never be erased. It can be covered over and forgotten but it can never be minimized or destroyed. Your diamond essence is your eternal heritage. You are a divine child of God because your Creator made you out of Her own being. This is why Jesus said, Ye are gods (John 10:34; Psalm 82:6).

Eternal Spirit has always been and ever will be. Being made in Her image, you will never cease to be. The ultimate security is in knowing that your consciousness will exist forever, endowed with Self-awareness of your unique individuality.

Since the Mother of the Universe has created you out of Herself She will hold the thought of your soul for eternity.

You may make mistakes in the play of creation and even, habitually, identify with them, but those mistakes can never tarnish the essence of your divinity. There may be mud covering a diamond but it can never distort the essential underlying brilliance and resilience of the diamond. Our heart’s journey is to gradually remove the mud of limiting identifications. With an open heart free from any limitations you will remember that you are a beautiful, faultless, perfect diamond soul and manifest the fullness of the qualities of the heart in your life.

Your Heart’s Journey is Possible Because You are Sustained by God

Eternal Spirit is the doer of all actions and creator of all things. You exist because the Creator is. Through God’s thought and dynamic will, you are sustained, and if God’s energy ceased to flow through you then your time in the physical play of creation would be over. You would not be able to feel or function. You are totally dependent on the Creator and indebted to Her for all that you are and all that you can accomplish.

As a soul you are absolutely great and beautiful because the Divine Mother made you magnificent as Her divine child. Since God exists, you are in all your glory. You have the potential to manifest whatever you like because the One Cosmic Heart of Love has given you the power to do so. The journey of your heart is to remember and enjoy your magnificence once again and to never be divorced from your divine glory.

Your Divine Heritage and the Essence of Your Heart and Soul

The Creator took the time to think about and create the essence that is you with special attributes that distinguish you as a unique expression of Divine Consciousness.

The Infinite Creative force never duplicates anything She creates. Each individualized snowflake has its own unique pattern and so do you. You are precious and are a special, unique expression of God.

Since you are a portion of Divine Consciousness, your soul has been endowed with all the attributes of Spirit. The fullness of the Creator is expressed in each portion of Her consciousness and all of Her manifestations, and is fully expressed in you. You possess the love, peace and bliss of God in its fullness, plus all of Her other attributes and qualities. How you express them is unique to you.

Being made in the image of God, if you know what the Creator is, you will know what you are. In India, Spirit is often spoken of as Sat-Chit-Ananda. Sat means eternal existence; Chit means consciousness; and Ananda means divine bliss, which is full of love and ever new. Spirit therefore is always conscious of Her eternally loving and blissful reality. As a soul you are individualized Sat-Chit-Ananda. You too can be conscious of your eternally loving and blissful reality, which is the Self, the essence of your soul.

The ultimate, natural desire of the spiritual heart is to remember its native state as individualized Sat (existence), Chit (consciousness) and Ananda (bliss). When the heart is perfectly clear and purified, we realize we are one with God and experience our true nature as pure consciousness, eternal, loving and blissful. We find repose in the Self, as Sat-Chit-Ananda, and all the longings of the heart are satisfied. The ultimate attainment of bliss results in the cessation of all trouble and suffering as they are experienced by ordinary human consciousness here on earth, and brings complete contentment of the heart.

Before you were created and placed in a human body, you were lovingly and fully aware of your oneness with omnipresent bliss consciousness. You were resting in the bosom of Infinite Being, in awareness of your divine contentment.

God created this universe and placed you here in a challenging and entertaining journey to unfold the fullness of your heart and to realize your beautiful, divine Self. The Creator expects us to act as immortals in this playhouse of creation. The ultimate destiny of the heart is to love God and all souls as unique, individualized expressions of Her Being. The journey requires that you fall in love with yourself as well, remembering the omnipresent, eternal bliss consciousness of your Self.

God is seeking your love. God wants you to be happy as Her child, free to live and create according to your own, individual perspective and intent. This is the entire purpose of the play of creation. It is the game of love between the Creator and Her children. God has already given us Her unconditional, impartial, unchanging, eternal and undying love. The fulfillment of our open heart is giving that love totally and unconditionally to the Divine in return.

It is not hard to love the Creator once you realize Her love, light and bliss within yourself but it takes time to feel Her indwelling presence. Let us practice the following meditation to purify and awaken the heart.

Meditation on Your Divine Nature

Practice the following meditation on your divine nature:

♥  Take several deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly, and then relax. Dwell on the thought that you are an eternal part of God’s Consciousness, a shining soul at one with everything. Reflect that the Creator has individualized this portion of Herself to manifest you as
