Chapter One

Karen invited me over for dinner, Jon said. What should I tell her?

Beth paused from packing baby supplies.

Tell her yes. This way I’ll know you’ll have at least one decent meal while I’m gone.

Jon scowled.

I can cook.

I know you can cook, but Karen was nice enough to invite you, so you should go.

She’s probably worried that I’ll be lonely without you and Caitlan.

Beth put her hands on her hips.

Are you saying you won’t miss us?
