About this ebook

Kyle Hanson went from faking paranormal activity for a camera to two supernatural attacks in as many days. Both times, the attackers have left behind a single clue to their aggression: the name of Kyle's missing brother, Tyler.

Kyle returns to filming with The Raventree Society with two goals: find out what the spirits know about Tyler and get out alive. And when the team is invited to investigate a plantation house with ties to the underground railroad and sightings of multiple entities, Kyle could fail both.

It doesn't take long for Kyle to find out that the rumors of hauntings at the Coal Mansion are much more than just legend. And when the sun goes down and the investigation of the house begins, Kyle quickly finds himself separate from the group and at the mercy of an ghost that has no desire to reveal any secrets.

Kyle scratched a growing bruise on his arm and winced at the ache in his joints.

Did anyone sleep last night? Josh pulled a pot of coffee off the warmer. His hand shook slightly as he poured the brew into a white mug, emblazoned with the chain hotel’s crest. It had been built in the last ten years. No hauntings. At least, that was the idea when they had spent the extra money to get a room.

He held out the pot out toward Kyle.

I’m set. Kyle lifted the nearly empty bottle of Blue Moon by the neck. A few droplets of condensation slipped down the side and dropped onto the keyboard in front of him.

Little early to be drinking? Josh raised an eyebrow at him.

"In my defense, I have been drinking since we got home last night. He pointed at the half-eaten muffin sitting beside the computer, And, no. Being slightly drunk doesn’t make the room service taste any better."

Josh gave him a halfhearted smile, as if he wanted to pretend that he was funny.

He looked like he was also feeling the ache as he eased himself into the armchair beside Kyle. Concern crossed his face for a moment. You never got cleaned up.

Kyle glanced down at the blood on his chest. Actually, I did. But all that seemed to do is make the bruises worse. Besides, I had a not so pleasant incident in the bathtub of the last place we stayed.

The door beeped and Carl’s baritone drifted in, accompanied by a soft laugh. Shit. Hannah. He was still in his boxers.

Reaching for his jeans, he frowned at the muddy stripes down the back of them and the torn fabric. Hannah continued laughing, talking with Carl as if the world hadn’t just turned upside down and then started spinning the opposite way over the last few days.

Kyle unzipped his suitcase and grimaced at the smell that drifted out. Something between beer, sweat, and Twinkies. Twinkies?

I was supposed to wash them yesterday, but I was too busy recovering from ‘ghostbusters’. Hannah dropped a small bag of groceries and her petite purse on the table. Carl smiled and placed an armful of similarly marked bags beside them.

Look who I found in the lobby. This woman is a gem. She brought us some real food.

Kyle gave up his search for pants and scowled at the bags. Your version of ‘real’ or actual, edible stuff.

I got you your starchy gunk, Hannah said. She wore a lacy white blouse loosely tucked into dark pink shorts that clung to her slight curves as if they had been painted on. Holy shit, woman. Way to make it hard on a pant-less dude.

She pressed her lips together, eyebrows drawn down toward her nose as she paused to look at Kyle. What the hell. You look like you were run over by a train!

Kyle grinned I look like Penelope Pitstop?

"Mmmm, the oddly offensive little people always saved her before the
