About this ebook
Ru, an ex-army survivor trapped in a house with multiple others during a zombie outbreak, has taken it upon herself to shoot out the yellow traffic light that seems to be drawing the undead to the subdivision where they are hidden. One last mission and she's hoping it will provide a way for the others to escape. She's not planning on getting back alive until she finds something that changes all her plans.
A simple, classic zombie short story.

Ru tightened the laces on her boots and pulled her pack on, tightening the simple straps over her deep green sweater. The words not all who wander are lost
were wrinkled over her chest.
It seemed ironic now. Because she was wandering, in a sense. Wandering away from the relative safety the survivors had eked out and getting well and truly lost
. Lost, not in the sense that she wouldn’t be able to find her way back. But lost more in the sense that if she made it back, it would be a miracle.
She would say she had pulled the short straw. But the reality was, she had the selfishness drilled out of her in basic training and she couldn’t seem to get past that training. Even now, after six months back from deployment. Even now, two months after the outbreak.
The murmur of voices in the other room proved to her that the other survivors were still there. Of course, where else would they go? The two story house, with its boarded up windows and brick walls, had become the strange little outpost of Shady Oaks residence. Those who weren’t shuffling along outside, hunting a warm body to chew on.
You remember what you have to do?
Ru knew enough about group politics to know that the portly, balding man in front of her had staked his claim to group leader
. She also knew enough to know that Hoss didn’t actually think she had forgotten her impressively simple mission. He just wanted to look like he was in charge of the situation, even though it was Ru who had pointed out the issue, come up with the solution, and decided to act on it.
‘Volunteered’ to act on it. That’s how Hoss liked to say it.
His real name was something bland like Bob. Ru hadn’t bothered to remember. He wasn’t important. So far, out of the group, she hadn’t really found anyone important yet. They all had their cliques and their packs. Their
