    INTRODUCTION

Destiny’s car continued to require repairs until it was more repair than car. Financial problems pointed to eviction and having to float between relatives who eventually committed her to the mental hospital for her unusual spiritual practices. How can she get out of this impossible predicament?

    Chapter One

    THE ROADSTER

A series of expensive dental problems and car problems had led to the financial circumstances in which Destiny now found herself. Her oldest daughter, Tonya, and her youngest daughter, Sharon, offered their help in the situation. Along with the detachment of the muffler from the car, Tonya’s boyfriend, Damon, suspected a new problem with the gearshift.

One evening, Destiny prayed for the car to be delivered from hindrances affecting the ignition process.  Ten dollars for gasoline came from her youngest daughter Sharon.

I am concerned about your car being seen by the police, Tonya said, when Sharon’s husband comes to your jobsite to work on it.

At a stop sign, Destiny’s car squealed and acted as though it had no brakes. Testing by Damon determined that it was fine. However, Tonya planned to test it herself in the morning.

When Tonya test-drove Destiny’s car, she agreed about the squealing and grabbing. The brake fluid was filled with sludge, the power-steering fluid was empty, and the radiator water was low. Why did Tonya seem to know more than her boyfriend mechanic about the car?

After cleaning out the brake fluid, Tonya added new fluid. She bought Destiny $13.50 worth of gas and gave her $10 in cash. Although the car stopped squealing, it rubbed or shuddered during braking. Addition of power-steering fluid provided a smoother ride.

Inclement weather accompanied the trip home from a non-local church. A dangerous storm was predicted but intercessors prayed against it.

The tires or brakes screeched and buffeted Destiny’s car. Suddenly, someone shot in front of her in a 65 MPH zone. Thanks to the grace of God, Destiny was able to stop the car in time.

After a harrowing experience of getting lost, Destiny ended at Exit 11. From there, she took the West York exit by mistake. When the water light came on three times, she almost considered going back home. Destiny said a deliverance prayer for the car, and the water light did not illuminate for the rest of the trip.

A report to Tonya drew the response that she would get Damon to look at the car in light of the gasoline problem. Damon added brake fluid and mixed antifreeze for Destiny to carry along to the next church service. The brakes seemed to have more resistance.

Because of low gasoline, Destiny debated on whether to spend the night in the parking lot. Nevertheless, she set out in faith. A man at a gas station said that there was no power at his station and suggested Exit 1 for gas. Destiny stretched her faith a little farther (12 miles) and arrived safely. During the trip home, the water light came on.

Trouble with the radiator light occurred on Route 40. It stayed on almost constantly but improved when Destiny cut off the heat. She prayed to make it to church.

After the church service, Destiny asked Brother Fern to take the radiator cap off. He added Destiny’s antifreeze. Although the radiator light did not come on, smoke billowed from the engine hood, the back of the car, and high on the left side.

Your hood smokes because of the hole in the water reservoir, Tonya said. There is a leak in the radiator or the hose.

Even though Destiny had no trouble with the car itself, the gas needle did not register after putting gasoline in the tank. The station attendant advised her to have the gas gauge checked.

Try Stop Leak for the radiator, Brother Fern  advised.

Your car needs $500 worth of repairs, Damon said. The radiator is rotten, and the hoses need replacing. Something is wrong with the muffler, wipers, and the right side of the car. Smoke comes from the radiator and leaks onto the engine parts. All of this is coming from long trips.

A letter would be forthcoming from Damon as a mechanic to ask the Department of Motor Vehicles for an extension. The car inspection was granted an extension until January 26th.

Because of not having been inspected, Destiny would not be able to drive the car after November 19th. The radiator light came on at Glenstone. Destiny prayed, and it stayed off during the rest of the evening.

A little past Exit 2, the car started shaking. Destiny found oil at the mart in the mall. She had to revert to Plan II which was to attend the church service where she had attended years ago because it was not as far away. Inasmuch as it was too early for the service, Destiny waited in the parking lot.

In order to get better mileage, Tonya said that she would let Destiny fill the gas tank initially. The transmission could have caused the shaking, Tonya concluded.

Both Tonya and Damon test-drove Destiny’s car and agreed that nothing was wrong with it. While Damon added the fluids, Tonya gave Destiny money to fill the tank.

On the way home from church, the radiator light came on once. However, the car did not shake. Destiny filled the gas tank.

Although Destiny added water to the car on her next trip, the red light still came on. At church, Brother Fern helped her to add water.

Even though Destiny had added fluid before leaving home, the return trip consisted of the radiator light coming on a number of times. The jug of water froze in the trunk. Skidding of the tires caused the car to lurch.

The car could not be driven home. From a nearby grocery store, Destiny called Sister Dee to make a call to Tonya and supply her with directions to find Destiny’s location. It was very cold and blustery while Destiny waited in the car.

Sister Dee’s son, Brother Adam, stopped by to ask Destiny’s reason for
