Chapter One
THE CHAIN GANG
Destiny’s place of employment continued to be intolerable while the battle raged between good and evil. The clothing store in a mall represented itself as the local hangout for exhibitionism and voyeurism. Conditions improved somewhat when some of the customers gave Destiny encouragement. Even her boss encouraged her in certain ways. Still, the situation kept Destiny feeling very uncomfortable in a compromise of moral standards. Her job hung by a thread and was exacerbated by her financial crisis.
Can you work Sunday night?
Destiny’s boss asked.
I have to go to my church job twice on Sundays.
This had all been discussed during the job interview. The boss had agreed to work around Destiny’s church commitment. Now she was trying to change the agreement.
Unexpectedly, Destiny had to stay at work until 8 p.m. Upon reaching home, she cried from fatigue and frustration.
A wise strategy came to Destiny during a sermon. Speak in tongues when you need to reprimand the customers, and the devil will not understand. Darkness does not like the light on your job. You must be feeling like the lowest of the low right now. Although you will have to go before magistrates, the Holy Ghost will tell you what to say.
The next day provided an ideal chance to try the strategy. A woman went into a dressing room with some sarcastic remarks to Destiny. While she was in the dressing room, Destiny prayed in tongues. When the woman came out, Destiny was surprised to hear her use please
and thank you.
Prayer had worked!
A woman wanted to order 25 Jesus T-shirts but the store did not have that amount. You must be an answer to prayer,
Destiny said, because people were saying that the religious shirts would not sell.
Are you the only one here who is saved?
the woman asked. Is your manager saved?
I don’t think so,
Destiny replied.
That is why the people thought that there would be no buyers for the shirt,
the woman said. We are different from the world.
A baby with oxygen tubes in the nose received prayer from Destiny. She offered prayer for a boy with a nosebleed. Along came a woman who needed prayer for puffiness from medicine.
Destiny prayed for a woman with an abdominal problem. She walked away saying, I feel better already.
A severely-affected male teen hollered while acting excitably and immaturely. After Destiny prayed for him, she thought that she heard him say, Jesus heals.
An idea came to Destiny to give a co-worker a prayer cloth. She gave an employee a spiritual booklet. Another employee asked the man where he had gotten the booklet.
A mother and father cursed and abused their children. Destiny spoke a deliverance Scripture across the room to them without their knowing. When a woman refused prayer, Destiny secretly sent the Word to her.
Two people at work said within one
