    The Secret Of Magic Book

The sun was reflected on the office’s floor. The window panels were cleaned and they helped the sun shined the entire office and every single one of the workers inside. The only sounds heard inside the office were the keyboards during several hours, nonstop. Not even a voice was heard in order to make any useless comment, which is usually done in plenty of offices, but not in this one. This always seemed particular for Mark but it was cool for him, at least, because peace surrounded him all day long while he was working there. On the other hand, the office was marvelous and one could feel at home whenever getting inside; the green that the plants oozed made a beautiful contrast with the blue on the walls and the uniforms every worker was wearing. The floor was brown, made out of porcelain, and it was always cleaned, but Mark’s boss wanted it even cleaner than before.

Mark started working there seven years ago. He had one year as a test, during that year he lived worried because he needed the money; but, he ended up doing it better than the boss thought, so he spent there six years more. Also, he made his boss a favor staying in there because the boss couldn’t always find a good cleaner to work there and last as Mark has done it through all these years.

Mark stopped living with his parents and moved to a single apartment, he was finishing college and had no money whatsoever to pay it. At last he graduated but he didn’t find any opportunities; many people that graduate can’t do that once college finishes. Mark was very desperate to find a job back then and he found this one and stayed, he had to pay the bills; and, knowing his boss was increasing his wage monthly, he didn’t have to look for any other job. At the end of the day, he was happy working there and had no reasons or chances to leave, mostly because finding a job these days has been harder than before. He got to meet several people that worked inside that office, and the majority left, but Mark was the only one who stayed for such a long time. His boss was indeed very proud of having someone as loyal as Mark has been. But the truth is that things don’t last forever because today Mark heard the news he hasn’t heard since years ago.

-Mark, I’ll wait for you in the office, I need to speak to you about several things –the boss said and went into his office. Mark knew at heart that something wrong was going to happen, something that can’t always be averted as he usually wants to.

Mark opened the office door, a little bit scared but trying to accept what was coming. Life was like this, and he knew this; he knew that something wrong was going to happen and he wouldn’t avert it this time.

    -Mark, you’re fired.

-What... Why? –Mark answered, he was really surprised after all.

-Yes, you’re fired, there are tons of reasons, but the truth is that I can’t have you in here any longer, I have to pay a lot of employees and I can’t pay you anymore...

-But, wait a second, you pay me less than then, and you still dare tell me that? I don’t get it.

-Wait a second, also, the company is going to close, and I haven’t told the news to a lot of people in here. The truth is that I can’t maintain it anymore, the economy is playing down on me; it’s killing me and I can’t do more to save the company as well.

    -...

-I know it’s difficult; you have been a really good cleaner in here and...

-I have been the best, but it’s okay, I understand, at least I am going to get my check this time, right? I have worked during the entire month; I need a last wage after all.

His boss stood up and went straight to one of the drawers. He took several minutes there in order to look for different things. But, he didn’t make the check on his desk, in front of Mark; he wrote everything down on the top of the drawer. When he turned around, Mark was right behind him.

    -Here you have.

-Thank you, I will leave now, and, as I said, thank you for everything.
