THE RECEPTIONIST
She didn’t know if she wanted it anymore. They finally hired her as part of the staff but when she got yelled at the day before, she felt she might have made a mistake. So she called the only other person besides her husband she felt she could talk to, but there was no answer.
Dammit, why can’t I ever get him when I need some support, she thought.
She sat there feeling a little defeated; it showed on her face. She looked as if her dog had died. She wanted to be alone, so she closed the door that lead to the lobby area and sat there in total silence. There were no phone calls coming in, no mail to sort, just silence.
Why am I still here?
she said to herself. This isn’t where I ‘m suppose to be. I had a plan, a bullet proof plan.
But it wasn’t bullet proof, in the silence she reflected on everything that had set her back. Family, marriage, and family again, she felt bad thinking like that. To her family was a blessing, but she knew they were one of the bullets that made it through.
Ring
Ring
Eres & Gemini,
she answered the phone a little sharp. No Mr. Gemini is not in today.
She hung up the phone and went back to her thoughts. She needed to make herself feel good, so she though of her sons. She pictured their little faces looking up at her she smiled to herself.
Good morning.
She heard from behind her, startled, it washed away the image that she had worked so hard to muster up in her head. She turned around, the smile she just had slide of her face before looking up at who the greeting was from.
Good morning,
she replied. It was Jack. Her smile returned, but just a little. Jack was the kind of guy husbands had to worry about having their wives work with. He was tall, jet black hair, about six feet even, medium build, hazel eyes, and a face that could charm the pants of any woman or even a man if he went that way.
How can I help you Mr. Torch?
She asked trying no to look into his eyes.
Why so formal? I told you, you could call me Jack,
he said flashing a smile.
Okay Jack,
she said still averting her eyes. She thought about him in less than appropriate ways when she first started working at the agency, but quickly reminded herself she was happily married.
"So how can I help you? She asked him again.
Well I need you to just write up two memos for me,
he told her. "Shouldn’t take you long to get it done.
"Okay send me the information and I will
