    It was dark. The gloomy clouds roared and poured mercilessly in Mumbai, drenching the driest of places in the city. It was four in the afternoon, but looked like seven in the evening. The watchmen of The Retreat Residency slipped into their rain coats and headed inside security rooms, trying to get hold of their flashlights. With two entrances in the front and one at the back guarded by a total of five watchmen, the apartment was pretty secure. It was divided into seven residential blocks with a pool in the center. Each block was named after a tree – Deodar, Gulmohar, Banyan, Cedar, Casuarina, Peepal and Mahogany.

    Winds blew heavily and the watchmen huddled inside.

    Thud!

    Something crashed hard on the floor. However, with the snarls of the clouds and howls of the winds, it went unheard. The rain subsided in an hour and the men on guard went back to sit on their mundane chairs and gaze at the puddles
