Chapter One: Wedding Jitters

Do we really have to walk through the entire mall? I complain as my fiance squeezes my hand tightly and smiles at me.

Kyle, don’t be such a crybaby. You know it takes time to find the right things for our friends and family. Don’t you want our day to be fun and beautiful? I am going to be marrying Lena Gadsden, a beautiful twenty-six-year-old woman I met two years ago while at a singles camping retreat in Colorado. My future wife is five-two, a little over a hundred pounds, and able to sharpen my pencil perfectly as a petite spinner. I get a little hard in the pants as I watch her move some of her light brown hair over her shoulder as she stares intently with her blue eyes at me.

Well, I think our friends and families should be buying us things, not the other way around. Besides, I have never heard of the bride and groom buying things for the guests. Lena and I have talked about this unusual practice, but it is something she saw on YouTube and she wants to give it a try. As far as I am concerned, it is a special day more about her than about me since I would love to simply get married with a justice of the peace. It would be so simple that way and we would not have to deal with other people.

My fiance giggles. Kyle, you should try to be a little sweeter toward the people who are already helping us pay for some of the wedding. If it were not for them, I’m not sure we would have such a nice day planned.

And a honeymoon, I grunt as I think about Lena’s parents and the cabin in a resort that they booked for us.

They mean well, she tells me as she squeezes my hand. Dad thought it would be cool if we went to one of his resorts.

But, it’s not even fifty miles away, Lena. Carl could just pop in unannounced to come see us. Doesn’t that bother you at all? I shake my head as I think about the honeymoon vacation gift my future in-laws gave to us. Carl Gadsden works for a large chain of resorts and hotels as a regional manager and more than likely got a nice deal on the whole package. However, it is a bit creepy as far as I am concerned that he could order the staff at the resort where we will be staying to keep tabs on us.

It will be fine, Lena promises. Besides, we will lock the door and pretend that we are not there if he comes by, okay? I promise that you will have the time of your life, Kyle Landers. She reaches over to me and pulls my head toward her. I bend down a little as I am a full foot taller than my fiance and kiss her. Lena’s soft lips are one of the reasons I fell in love with her in the first place and I relish having them on mine as we enjoy each other’s kiss.

It’s not fair, you know? I say as she releases me and I stand back up.

Not fair? What’s not fair? Lena’s eyebrows go up.

I chuckle. It’s not fair that you use your body against me. You know that I can’t refuse whatever you want when you do that. We both laugh as she squeezes my hand even tighter. Lena loves holding my hand and I love holding hers just as much. It was something that we started doing on our very first date when she warned me that she could very easily fall in love with me.

I will always use whatever feminine advantages I have to get my way with you, Kyle. You should know that by now. Smiling at me, she adds, Besides, this is such a small thing to do for those who will be at our wedding. You know that they will love the little goody bags.

Sighing, I ask, How much are we going to spend on this again?

Just a couple hundred dollars. Everything that I am buying doesn’t cost all that much. The little bottles of bubbles are three for a dollar and the individually wrapped mints are cheap as well. Don’t worry, Kyle, I won’t break the budget.
