Murder Of My Mysterious Wife - Ashraf Shaikh
The Anesthetized Writer
Just when you think everything in your life comes back to normal, that's when you get fucked the most. You should never think like that, why would you, your wife’s murdered by someone, and there is underworld involved, there’s some invisible force behind, there’s an invisible player in this game, whom no one knew until now. Blackburn, who the fuck is Blackburn, and what does he want from me. Why am I the one always getting into trouble?
I am here in Rajasthan, living in a small village, where you have to walk for an hour to get water and food. There’s Sara with me. I always suspected her of everything. I mean why people like this stay with me. She had nothing to do with me, she had a job in Mumbai and she was good there. Why did I bring the girl I didn't want with me, just for sexual purposes? I am an asshole, a complete one.
Hey, babe
Sara says with her smudged lips. We were at it, the entire night we fucked, made love, and played around with our bodies. Now we wake up late, in the afternoon. The water here isn't easily available and that means that I have to walk in the scorching heat to fetch water.
I get up and clean my clothes with the sand near the hut. Sara comes out of the hut and removes her tank top. She grabs the sand and rubs on her body. In deserts in extreme conditions, mostly in Muslim countries, when there’s no water available to wash, people used to wash them by sand and then attend their prayers.
She took sand in her palms and rubbed on her navel, and then her boobs. She looks at me and studies my face.
While I see her, thinking why, why do men make a crazy mistake on the verge of having sex. We didn't talk that much, but she stayed around.
Do you need anything?
I asked.
She looked at me and looked around, No actually
she told me.
I'm going to town to grab food,
I said.
Let me come with you,
she said wearing her tank top.
We lived like a homeless here. Slept on a made-up hut, and bathed with sand, and had wild sex in nights, slept till afternoon, no right kind of food, and less availability of water.
What about your Mumbai job, do you still have it?
I asked.
No, I don't, I felt bored at that job anyway, I didn't want to work there,
she said.
