I wanted to also give a thanks to Stephanie Rodriguez, she helped me a lot through the beginning stages of self-publishing. Thanks to the rest of my family for supporting me. Thanks to my friends, especially Doobie, who voulnteered to read my work to my mother against my will. If it weren’t for her, my mom probably wouldn’t have seened it as early as she did and this process would’ve been done much later. Thanks Doobie! And anybody who I forgot to mention, thank you.

    CHAPTER 1: A DAY OUT

Come on bitch. My ma’fuckin gas isn’t free! I yelled into my sidekick.

Iight hoe. We be down in a minute. Sit tight! Angie yelled back at me and I flipped the phone closed. It was a beautiful, hot Saturday morning and we were going to get our hair done. Angie, Nay, and I have been best friends since forever. Today we were spending the day together since Nay and I haven’t been hanging out lately. After about another ten minutes, they skipped they high yellow asses to my car.

Excuse me bitches, but what in the world took you guys so long?

Sweetie, beauty takes time and I had to make sure my son was ok with my mom before I left! Angie stated.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t we going to the beauty shop now dumbass. Anyways, Hey boo. I said to Angie and then turned to Nay.

    Hey Nana. What’s up?

Aint shit, juggling work and dealing with the whole Shawn situation, you know. What you been up to? I asked trying to change the subject before anyone could sense that I was choking up.

Its ok boo, you got your two best friends to help you through. Nay said sensing my sadness about the whole situation.

Yeah, that’s why I made yo’ ass come get us, so we could have a girl’s day out and you know what? That’s what we finned do okayyyy! Angie said in effort to cheer me up.

Ok. Yeah you guys are right, I needed to get out and do me. I said wiping the tears that escaped my eyes.

Okay so where we off to first?Angie asked.

Well we gunna go to my cousin shop. And then she gunna leave with us after our hair is done. Jayson got Jessenyia tonight and she don’t wanna be bored.

Get out. Miss Lauren is finally coming somewhere with us? She always working or with that beautiful little girl.

Ugh. Are you serious Nana? You know me and her don’t get along. Nay stated rolling her eyes and sucking her teeth.

Why cause she whooped that ass? Angie said laughing. I just looked at her. That was a low blow. Even though my cousin did beat her ass. But Lauren was my favorite cousin so I wasn’t about to pass up a once in a blue moon chance to chill with her. Lately all she did was work and spend time with her only child, whom she had at a young age, so they were close.

Shut the fuck up Angie. That shit ain’t fuckin funny. I still don’t like the hoe. Nay was beyond heated now.

Um bitch, you fucked her baby daddy and tried to rub it in her face. They had jus gotten back together. I think you was the one that sabotaged their relationship again. I woulda beat that ass the same way she did. Don’t front you woulda done the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot. I jumped to my cousins’ defense. Nay rolled her eyes again.

I hate how you always taking her side. Like that bitch is not a fuckin angel. For real yo.

Nah she not but that’s my cousin. Family is always first which is why I still roll with you. Cuz if I was really shady I woulda dropped you for her. But nah you like my sister so nothing could break our bond. I said truthfully. Nay saw she wasn’t going to win the argument, so she shut up for the rest of the ride.

We pulled up to Laurens’ Palace and there was no type of parking, so I let the girls out and drove down the block and parked my truck there. As I walked back to the shop, I tried to get myself together. When I got in front of the shop Rah, a major drug dealer, tried to spit his game to me for the millionth time.

Yo’ Nana come here! he said.

What Rah? I said laughing and walking over towards where he was standing.

When you gunna give a nigga the time of day?

When you get a j-o-b! His friends laughed.

Ah she played you. Chris his man stated and I laughed.

    I got a job, ma.

No nigga, a real job. When you got that, then come holla at me. Ok? I said and turned to walk into the shop.

    Hey ya’ll. I said.

Hey Nana! everybody except for Angie and Nay said.

Hey Lauren. What’s up favorite cousin? Can you hook my head up. Look at my head.

Hey, cuz. Yeah my chair is open now so come on before somebody come up in here.

Ok, thanks. I said and the bells rang indicating that someone was entering the shop.

Who’s Nana? I gave the chick a look-over. She had on some busted ass all white Air Force Ones, a Baby Phat shirt and some ripped Baby Phat jeans. I would’ve thought this chick was ten the way she was dressed. I laughed at my inner thoughts and then spoke up, I am!

Why the fuck do you keep calling my mans’ phone?

Hold up, when you talk to me, talk correct don’t be coming at me like you know me. Oh and one more thing try being more specific. Like try using names Ok?

I’m Shawn’s girl Quesha! You know me now huh bitch? She replied and I just looked at her.

Oh nice to meet you. I’m his ex Nana. I said and extended my hand for a handshake.

I know who the fuck you is bitch. You better leave my man alone cuz he don’t want ya ass!She replied leaving my hand there.

Ok Hun, I’ve been nice enough. Now I don’t know you but you need to tone your ghetto ass down and come at me correct! I stated as-a-matter of factly.

Look wateva bitch just stay the fuck away from my man iight cause apparently he don’t want ya dried up ass which is why he left you for me! I stared at her like she had four heads. I wanted to hop over Nay, who was now standing in front of me in order to make sure my crazy ass didn’t hit the bitch.

Oh what cat-got-your -tongue bitch. Now that’s what I thought.

Hahaha… I started to laugh at the character in front of me when she cut me off.

Do I look like I’m fuckin laughin bitch?

Um, you need to stop talkin to my fuckin cousin like that and take yo tore up lookin ass out my muthafucin shop. Lauren said trying to diffuse the situation.

Lauren it’s alright cuz. I got this. Okay, listen bitch. You got one more time to call me a bitch before my good friend Nay here will move out of the way and I’ll make you regret ever going through his phone. Another thing, clearly you need to get some damn glasses, cause he’s calling me askin me for a booty call cause his bitch aint been real rite, na mean! I paused to breathe and then continued, Now cats-got-who’s tongue bitch!

Whatever, hoe. Delete his number cause he don’t want ya ugly ass iight? I had enough so I pushed Nay out the way and got in the chicken head’s face.

Sweetie, I’m nineteen years old and I don’t answer to no damn body. Now I am too mature to be out here fightin for some boy.

Well my man, notice the strong emphasis on man, doesn’t want you and once again that’s why he left you for me!

Ok, imma let you have that one, he did leave me for you. But apparently I’m just that bitch if he’s still callin me. Look at me I don’t even have to try to look cute to get holla’s from niggas. Now you wanna be ghetto, I can be ghetto.

    Is that a threat bitch?

No hoe it’s a promise. So if you’re going to act on ya words , do it , if not shut the fuck up cuz some of us wanna get our hair donein peace and mines is all natural hunny.

Nah this ain’t the time or place. But trust me you gunna get yours. You aint seen the last of me bitch. I ain’t scared of you bitch. She replied and with that she walked out of the shop.

I shrugged and walked back over to Lauren and sat down. She began to wash my hair and the shop started to get noisy again. All the afternoon gossip started to fill the shop as Lauren put my long brown hair into rollers. Once she was done she sat me under the dryer and set the timer. I turned on my iPod and ‘I wish I never met you’ by Trina was filing my ears replacing the noise of the shop.

After about an hour Lauren came over and tapped me on
