Chapter 1:
Empathy 101
––––––––
What is empathy?
Empathy is defined as the ability to easily sense and feel other people's feelings or emotions. It is characterized by a heightened sensitivity to such emotions. However, it should be noted that empathy means more than just being able to sense emotions. More specifically, it is about being sensitive and being able to feel the subtle energy. It should be noted that everything is made of energy, even conventional science has proven this as a fact.
When you have empathy, then you do not perceive the world as most other people do. You get to immerse yourself in a world that is rich in emotions and feelings. Unfortunately, these emotions in the form of energy can be problematic, especially if you do not know how to control and use your ability properly. It is also worth noting that every person has some level of empathy. There are simply some people who are more sensitive than others.
Is it a gift or a curse?
Is empathy considered a gift or a curse? Indeed, there are empaths out there who regret having such kind of ability, but there are also those who are happy and live harmoniously as an empath. What you should understand is that empathy can either be a gift or a curse depending on how you handle it. For example, a knife is usually used for cooking. In this sense, it is good. However, in the hands of a murderer, the same knife can be troublesome. The same principle applies to empathy. It depends on how you control and use it.
You need to learn to be in control of your ability instead of the other way around. Unfortunately, many empaths end up being controlled by other people's emotions. What makes this worse is that they tend to attract negative energies instead of positive ones. If you attract and get connected with negative energies, then you will soon end up being negative yourself. You have to learn to deal with various emotions and energies. Once you can finally control your ability, then you will soon realize how helpful it can be. Yes, you can help people, including yourself, with empathy. This ability will allow you to connect and understand people on a deeper and more meaningful way. As such, it can help give you a life full of love, peace, and happiness. Listen: You have a gift. You simply have to learn to use it as one.
Signs that you are an empath
Are you an empath? You might be wondering if you truly possess the ability of empathy or not. Here are notable signs to look for:
Feeling drained after being with people
Do you feel drained after being with people? This is a common signal that you probably have empathy. It usually happens after interacting with people, especially when you interact with negative people. Many times, even without interaction, but just the mere presence of other people can make you feel drained. You might notice this when you go to populated places like the mall. The reason why this happens will be discussed later in the book. This can also happen when you interact with a negative person. If you often have this kind of experience, then it is a usual sign of empathy.
Need for solitude
Do you have a need to have alone-time for yourself? If you feel like you need to take a step back from people and only spend time with yourself, then you are probably an empath. Empaths normally need to be alone from time to time, especially as a way to release tension
