The Affair
Again, it’s him
Violetta thought as she opened the door, because someone knocked. She didn’t have a way of checking who it was, because her door lacked a peephole. Why is he coming to spend the night with me yet again? He’s married after all
she wondered. Kamil, leave now.
But he just got started with foreplay, and they tumbled onto recently made bed, covered in pink sheets.
In the wee hours of the night, he told her I’ll get you a job in the capital. It’ll be hard to get anything organized in this tiny, hundred-thousand people town.
No
she said with fear in her eyes after wondering about it for a while.
He didn’t press, although he probably wanted her to be his, and with him. Violetta, however, preferred to pass that chance up. She did think he could be someone, who procures young women for profit, as living merchandise. Especially since recently, about a month previously, when she visited employment office, she got an offer that came with exorbitant pay, from some guy in the hallway. She was afraid of Kamil at the very memory of it.
Fine, if you don’t want to, then get dressed. I’ll take you out for a walk.
She got ready obediently, without thinking. They went out to the park and sat at an outdoor table his friends were sitting at. Violetta didn’t manage a good conversation with them. She saw them for the first time in her life. She felt silly because he was married. They sat, sitting beer for a while. Suddenly someone approached from behind. The person grabbed one of the beer glasses off the table in a swift, energetic motion. And poured it on Violetta’s skirt, in the area at the apex of her thighs. That someone turned out to be a woman loudly screaming at Violetta
You slut leave my husband alone!
and then she turned to Kamil. Darling, we’re going to have a baby. Yes, I’m pregnant.
Violetta stood up and ran home as fast as she could. Once Kamil calmed his wife down, ordered her a cab. Using a ruse of having to work, he stayed behind, then went to Violetta’s. He knocked, but Violetta didn’t answer the door.
Violetta, it’s me.
But this time, she didn’t open the door for anyone. She wanted to calm down alone.
The next day, Kamil could neither come over, or allow himself any affairs. He had to go back to his home in the capital.
As Violetta ran as fast as she could, back to her home, chilled by cold beer and sudden weather change from hot day to a hailstorm.
The hail provided Violetta’s body with a freezing massage for several minutes. She was frozen to the bone. The next day she began sneezing and sniffling and got a fever. But instead of seeing the doctor first, she had to go to an employment office to sign a document, without which she wouldn’t get her unemployment benefit. Only after taking care of that, she could see a doctor, because she had both headache and a sore throat.
A bit of time has passed.
Good day. My name is Violetta Fillas. I have an appointment for a job interview.
Have you worked in an office?
Not yet.
Where did you work then?
At a shoe factory and in a hotel, as a receptionist, and a little bit as a maid. I worked those jobs, while studying to become an administrative technician.
So, you pretty much came here straight after completing vocational school. So, you should know how to do billing.
Yes, of course.
Cool, I’ve been just looking for someone for that position.
When do I start?
Could you start now, right away?
Yes, of course.
Great, I’ll take you to your office.
They left the female president’s office. The lady president had a blue hair, cut into a manly style. They walked up the stairs to the office building’s second floor.
Here’s your desk and computer. Only one person works in each room. You will do just billing and make correction notes.
Then the president went to her office. She put her purse on, grabbed laptop and the tabled and got into her car. She then left the company’s premises.
Good afternoon, ma’am
the maid greeted her. What would you like for dinner today?
Broth with pearl barley please.
After dinner, she called her daughter. Hello darling, how’s it going? How do you feel in your first week of pregnancy?
She held the phone to her ear and listened.
You know what? Today I hired a woman that matches the description you’re giving me. Don’t you know what her name is?
She listens. No matter. I’ll send you her photo. But don’t tell anything to your father of husband. You understand, they’ll just nag.
She listens some more. Got it? The picture got through. Are you sure? In that case we’ll have to come up with something so that they don’t get together anymore. I don’t know yet, but I’ll think of something. I’ll keep my eye on her. I’ll try to get a feel for her weaknesses. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to frame her into something. You try as well.
She listens again. What hobby? Oh, cool. We’ll be models. I like that. We’ll be on the catwalk too? No, I’m too old. Better tell me all about that modeling gig you got us.
She’s
