Feeling my forehead as I lay in bed, Mum sighed. ‘You are a bit hot,’ she said. ‘No school for you today.’
Feeling unwell, I just wanted to stay in bed.
But my mum *Sally was a single parent, and she had to go to work as a cleaner.
‘You’ll need to come with me,’ she said.
So traipsing off with her to a property in town, I sat on the sofa while she got to work dusting and hoovering. Then a man suddenly popped his head round the door.
It was Mum’s client, Paul Abraham. She cleaned his home as well as properties he owned around town.
‘Morning, Sally,’ he called out, then he spotted me. ‘Who’s this then?’
‘This is my daughter Clair,’ Mum replied. ‘Sorry, she’s off school sick so I had to bring her with me.’
