Daveon & Makayla - lawyer Henderson
Chapter 1: Hi Hun I’m Makayla
It begins to rain before midnight. The Southside of Atlanta looks creepy and gloomy like it could be A Gotham City in A Batman movie. The atmosphere is cool, but calm. Only a few cars are on the street in the big town.
A grey 2019 Kia Sorento SUV pulls up to sky-scraper hotel. An African American woman in her early 30s gets out, dressed in a flowery dress, dark shades and pink sandals. She takes out two pieces of luggage from the back seat.
She tips the Lyft driver, grabs her luggage and enters the hotel walking to the elevator like a fashion model.
The elevator opens, the button pushed already by an elderly man going up. She forces both pieces of her luggage’s in with her, struggling to push the button to the 15th floor.
You look very beautiful, hun
. the old white man told her.
Thank you, sir
. She replied.
She looks up at the elevator walls as it makes a turbulent noise on its way up.
Both doors open.
She walks out to the hallway as a small crowd gathered in the lobby for a quick celebration, they stare at her with her shades and luggage, as she quickly glances to a clear window to see a police captain talking to an executive, un-related to her department, she is relieved and takes A deep breathe.
A secretary that works in the front, notices her, and catches her off guard, approaches her with curiosity.
Hey Makayla, wrong floor darling, don’t you managers have the first-floor offices?
. She jokes.
Carol, you scared the heck out of me. And yes, we do!
.
Carol stares at the two bags of luggage that Makayla is holding and says nothing. She finally takes a wild guess as to why she has luggage at work with her on the weekend.
"I can see you brought enough clothes for a vacation at work! Carol guesses.
"Oh no, uh...my house has flooded, there is water everywhere and it may take a while to um, fix everything’.
"They have to remodel the Living Room, and paint the kitchen and bathroom walls...it’s a total mess!
She slightly looks away, hoping they would buy her story. She also reminded them of the mess it is. Plastic all over the couch and floor was mentioned too, as she claims to have two men working with her neighbor to get the job done sooner.
God, I wish they would hurry up
. She said frustratedly.
It’s been three whole days and they are not close to being finished,
she told them.
She then moves on to another subject thanking them for congratulating her on the promotion and then quickly walks off.
This time, she finally makes it to her desk and sees a note. It has a post stamp address from A gentleman who’s name she doesn’t recognize.
Shaun Mc Quinn.
Do I know you?
she is asking herself.
She opens the letter quickly, and reads it to herself with ease and inquisitiveness. Her eyes got so big as Shaun Mc Quinn told her in the letter that he will be at the hotel where she is working at tonight around 10 'o'clock P.M.
Meaning he is already there.
As she looks away to remind herself how rich of a john he was when they dated before, she remembers getting $500 dollars from him and a healthy tip. It quickly dawns on her that Shaun came to a strip club she was working at back in Harlem.
This can’t be!
No way!
He’s back?
Back like the closet that sits at the end of the yard, the letter assured her. Makayla put the letter back into the envelope and pulled out her desk drawer throwing the letter inside as if it was threatening! She sits back at her desk and is finally catches up on her work for the day.
She searches on the internet for dresses that she wants to purchase offline. Maybe a flower dress that brings the young girl out of her as she used to be.
Naw!
her inner-voice told her. Something more provocative is what she really had in mind, for the next time she goes out with her friends.
Makayla finally stops searching the internet and is about to head up to her room.
Later on, that day she goes shopping
Makayla is off work for today, walking down a busy sidewalk with a lot of stores and shops.
She sees a clothing store that has a dress hanging from the window she lives in.
She enters.
A white woman dresses white blouse, black pants and brown straw hat greets her after she picks out a yellow dotted dress and places it next to her body to see if she can fit.
While that is you all the way, dear
. The woman remarks politely.
Thank you
.
Makayla responds delicately.
I’m trying to get something to wear for margaritas in New Orleans
. She added.
The woman goes through other clothing that she believes Makayla might like.
She moves on to the other clothing racks that are next to the one she’s standing in front of.
We got some more dresses over here
. The store manager said.
She walks toward the lady with one dress already in her hands.
"I
