About this ebook
Being alive and living life doesn't mean just breathing. Life is rarely lived to the fullest and embraced completely. Life is an experience in learning of others and learning of ourselve.
L.K. Benge
L.K. Benge lives in the wilds of the Southern United States with her Spouse and ever growing family. Having embraced a love for Edgar Allen Poe at a young age she delved into the passion that is creating art with words. A quirky bisexual and polyamorous person, she got serious about her writing after the loss of her partner of 12 years to metastic breast cancer.

Living Is Not Just Breathing - L.K. Benge
The First Time
Slick with sweat;
Bodies moving, limbs tangled, hearts racing.
New experience.
First experience.
Not experimentation;
Real life,
Real love,
Embracing, kissing, licking, sweating:
Never knowing the reality;
Ecstasy!
Shuddering climactic pleasure;
Finally!
A first time
Definitely not the last
Nubile flesh, perfume, and ivory skin
An understanding achieved
Home finally achieved.
Such a volatile time
For a young woman discovering themself.
Not a simple college lesbianism
Searched and sought out.
Not an experience for the books of life
A sudden understanding and definition of what is finally right.
Suddenly finding out exactly who you are.
No more questions!
Answers achieved!
Thanking the Goddess for this moment in time
Where love for self and another human being will shine.
Terrified
May I take a moment of your time?
Time that is valuable and unreturnable.
That I may share with you feelings and undeniable truths.
I am human; can’t you see
You aren’t at all that different from me.
Sure we love different types of people
But that doesn’t make me evil.
You spout and spew hate
Telling me I am inhumane.
Sub human an animal; not worth any rights.
I am not even worth a moment of your time.
You want to see me die.
You dream of torturing me
To fulfill your hate filled crimes.
You take sweet bliss in the fear you see
In my eyes when you proudly walk by.
My brave face easily falters
I beg to my Goddess, not to let me die today.
I have children and family.
I have a spouse and friends.
I have people who need me
I have people to take care of.
Frozen in terror every day
Hand poised above the knob;
The entrance to a new world of hate.
My born family would see me disappear.
They don’t agree that I am here.
They think I am sick
They think I am a menace.
They praise those in power and justify their tenants.
I
