      Whether you enjoy math or absolutely cringe at the thought of working with figures, you’ll love this book. We’ve done all the tedious mathematical work so that you can more quickly decide how much fabric and batting to purchase for your patchwork quilts.

      Before you try to use our charts for your own personal quilt, read through the information given in How to Use This Book and we’ll help you plan an example in the Planning a Quilt section. By reading through the steps and planning an example full-size quilt, you will become familiar with how the charts work. This will save you the time of experimenting on your own.

      How to Use This Book

      Patchwork Minus Mathwork is a collection of charts that will help you to plan a quilt and figure yard-ages without doing the math.

      Go through the steps in Planning a Quilt, pages 3–9, along with the Figuring Yardage charts, pages 24–43, then use the Quilt Worksheet, pages 45–47, to figure yardages you will need for your quilt. When you are finished, write the amounts on the Shopping List on page 48, and you are ready to go to your local quilt shop or fabric store, or visit your favorite online fabric source.

      Although it would be impossible to include every size in the Quilt Sizes & Number of Blocks charts on pages 10–23, there are enough choices that
