Mix & Match Sampler Settings - Scott Flanagan
Introduction
By Scott A. Flanagan of 4 th & Main Designs
This book is meant to be used as an inspiration and to help you find ways to mix and match blocks and settings together—whether you are using sampler blocks from the book or orphan blocks lying around your quilt studio!
This book features 12 sampler blocks in two different sizes, 12 and 6
, and eight different settings using 12 blocks each. Here is where you can mix and match to make the quilt your own.
Option 1: Pick the layout and size you want to do, then make it as shown in the book.
Option 2: Pick your favorite layout and use 12 of the same block throughout.
Option 3: Make the large quilt but use four 6 blocks per 12
sampler block area.
Option 4: Mix 12 and 6
blocks together in the quilt.
Project Inspiration
Barn Quilt Sampler – The name for this quilt was inpsired by the barn quilt movement that is growing across the Midwest. The back of the quilt features barns with quilt blocks on them as well.
Warm & Cozy Sampler – Made from Maywood Woolies flannel, this quilt is super cozy and perfect for winter nights and a good movie! When working with flannel, be sure to press all seams open.
Retreat Day Sampler – This quick sampler quilt was pieced during a one-day virtual quilt retreat I attended with one of the quilt guilds I belong to.
Sail Away Sampler – This striking sampler is perfect for using a large focal print as your setting background and picking out an accent color for the two dark bands.
Stepping Stones Sampler – Dots of color make up the stepping stones between the rows of blocks. Split any block you like in half to use in your middle row to make the offset.
Jenny’s Star Sampler – My friend Jenny loves floral fabrics and helped make all the half-square triangles needed
