    •Cream, medium blue and black all-purpose thread

    •White and blue quilting thread

    •Clear nylon monofilament

    •Freezer paper

    •Water-soluble glue stick

    •½ yard ⅛"-wide blue ribbon

    •Basic sewing tools and supplies and large safety pins

    Cutting

    1. Cut five 9½ × 9½ A squares cream tonal; fold each square on horizontal and vertical sides, and crease to mark centers.

    2. Cut three 2¾ by fabric width strips tan marbled; subcut strips into (40) 2¾ B squares.

    3. Cut two 2¾ by fabric width strips red check; subcut strips into (24) 2¾ C squares.

    4. Cut one 2¾ strip along the length of the blue tonal; subcut strip into (16) 2¾ D squares.

    5. Cut two 9½ by fabric width strips blue crackled; subcut strips into (24) 2¾ E strips.

    6. Cut two 2 × 36½ F strips and two 2 × 39½ G strips red check.

    7. Cut two 2¾ × 39½ H strips and two 2¾ × 44 I strips along the length of the blue tonal.

    8. Cut five 3 by fabric width strips blue crackled; subcut strips into (60) 3 J squares.

    9. Cut three 3 by fabric width strips each red check (K) and red mottled (L); subcut strips into (30) 3 squares each fabric.

    Cutting & Preparing Appliqué Pieces

    1. Prepare templates for appliqué shapes using patterns given. Note: Patterns are given in reverse for freezer-paper appliqué.

    2. Trace the appliqué shapes onto the paper side of the freezer paper referring to patterns for number to cut; cut out shapes on traced lines.

    3. Press the coated side of the freezer-paper pieces onto the wrong
