    •2⅛ yards background fabric*

    *Sanibel collection from Clothworks; 100% Cotton Thread from Aurifil; Tuscany Silk Batting from Hobbs Bonded Fibers used to make sample.

    Project Notes

    Read all instructions before beginning this project.

    Stitch right sides together using a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

    Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width.

    Arrows indicate directions to press seams.

    WOF – width of fabric

    HST – half-square triangle

    QST – quarter-square triangle

    Cutting

    From background fabric cut:

    •2 (6 × 11¼) I rectangles

    •4 (6 × 9) G rectangles

    •4 (4¾ × 6) H rectangles

    •29 (2½ × 6) F rectangles

    •8 (1½ × 6) E rectangles

    •80 (1½ × 2) B rectangles

    •320 (1¼") C squares

    •80 (1") A squares

    •13 (2½" × WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

    6 (2½ × 46) J strips

    2 (2½ × 51) K border strips and 2 (2½ × 50) L border strips

    From black cut:

    •20 (1½ × 2) B rectangles

    •160 (1¾") D squares

    From teal cut:

    •6 (2½" × WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

    2 (2½ × 55) M and 2 (2½ × 54½) N border strips

    From blue cut:

    •6 (2½" × WOF) binding strips

    Completing the Blocks

    1. Refer to Sew & Flip Corners and use the A squares and black B rectangles to make 40 A-A-B units, sewing A squares to long side of B (Figure 1).

    2. Sew two background B rectangles to the opposite short sides of the step 1 unit (Figure 2). Make 40.

    3. Using the Sew & Flip Corners technique, sew two C squares to opposite corners of a D square (Figure 3). Make 160.

    4. In the same way, sew step 3 units to the corners of an M square (Figure 4). Make 40.

    5. Sew a step 2 unit on top of a step 4 unit as shown in the Turtle block diagram to complete one Turtle block. Make 40.

    Completing the Quilt

    1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram and photo for block placement and orientation, arrange blocks and pieces into seven block rows as follows:

    •Row 1: 6 pieced blocks, 2 background E rectangles, 4 background F rectangles and 1 background G rectangle

    •Row 2: 4 pieced blocks, 2 background F rectangles, 1 background G rectangle, 1 background H rectangle and 1 background I rectangle

    •Row 3: 7 pieced blocks, 2 background E rectangles and 6
