“Scrappy string quilts are one of my favourite quilts to stitch. I can raid my leftovers and offcuts, and it will all come together in one glorious riot of colour.

“You can use any leftovers, as well as something termed strings. Historically, strings were pieces of fabric that were wider on one end than the other. A strip of fabric is a piece of fabric that is the same width along its length. The terms are often interchangeable – and today, we most commonly use the term strips. If you do use strings, though, the difference in the width as you sew them into your project adds an extra dimension of quirkiness.
