T he sun sets over the horizon, marking the environment around it crimson orange. As far as the eye can reach, one can see sand in infinite proportions. To the uninitiated, this sight is breathtaking, making it more so because the setting sun shines with its final glory making the desert golden-yellowish. Contrasting with Nature is a block of concrete and steel being the core of a sprawling complex in the suburbs of a major city—a magnet for dreamers. It is evening and construction work has stopped. The steel competes with sand to glisten brightly with no sound present to distract the view.

To one soul however, this sight brings neither joy nor amazement. With the sun, his heart and hope is also dwindling into the ever looming darkness. Mark Swain’s long day has ended. He walks wearily in the large complex, his memories crowding out the desolation around him. His toes suddenly touch something. It is a pair of scraggy gloves; half tattered and torn, (but marked 154 in bold Red) much similar to what he is inside now. Taking out his ID, he confirms that the glove number and his ID match. They are indeed his. He looks at them in a forlorn manner. It seems to be of a different era. 15 minutes back he had exit that world. He begins to walk away but something tugs at his heart like a rope and he looks back at that pair, now lying on the dusty ground. Tears flash out of his eyes. He loses control of himself as memories gush in his mind. He says, Everything began with these. Will everything finish with these too?

Mark closed his eyes and entered a virtual time machine. His head began to swirl and when things cleared he was in a lush green lawn celebrating the arrival of the millennium beside a giant pool. People all around him seemed jovial and happy. Some were with families, the wives giggling, the children making merry whereas the other singletons like him soaked up the atmosphere with a few head swaying hard drinks. He was in Le Meridian beach resort in Phuket, a seven star offering. Realizing he had abundance of time to kill, he decided to wait before indulging himself. That moderate abstinence was reinforced by the severe hangover he had this morning following his merrymaking the night before. It took him more than an hour to get out of the room. His friends were less fortunate. They woke up with bloodshot eyes and hangover ensured that they could neither leave the room nor sleep.

He giggled thinking of their self-inflicted plight. He took a look at himself in the mirror and thought how good things were for him.

6 Feet Tall, blue eyes and a chocolate boy face contrasted by a well trimmed muscular body; he was the honeycomb for girls. He and his three friends had come here on a fully paid first class vacation for achieving marvellous results for their
