JUST as thousands of first-year students prepare to embark on a new chapter in their lives at tertiary institutions around the country, news broke about alleged horrific initiation practices taking place at Wilgenhof, the oldest men’s residence at Stellenbosch University.
Shocking details came to light after an audit by the university’s management, which included a search of two secret rooms in the residence. But it’s not the first time there have been allegations of abuse during “welcoming activities” at the institution, particularly at Wilgenhof, which has been dubbed “the house of horrors”.
