I MUST admit when I first read that women now have to get mammograms at the age of 40 I thought, “Really?!” But then I remembered how many times I’ve heard of women younger than that who’d had them and were able to detect the breast cancer early enough to get treatment and go into remission.
I’ve also just read the story of Gauteng mom Marinet Janse van Rensburg, who at 39 is now facing a battle with breast cancer while her young son, Marlo, fights a rare form of cancer called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma that affects children. It’s a devastating situation for Marinet and her family and we wish them all the strength for the difficulties ahead. Read more on page 22.
