Sophie and her family are visiting her grandparents, and she cant wait to bake cakes with her grandma and spend time with her grandpa. Its been hard since Sophies family moved away to a new town and a new school.
While shopping at a department store with her grandmother, Sophie stumbles upon a beautiful ring on the floor and puts it on. She closes her eyes and wishes she was back at her grandparents house so she can show the pretty ring to her grandfather.
Then something amazing happens. When Sophie opens her eyes, shes standing in her grandparents living room! She makes a wish to be back with her grandmother, and poof! Shes in the department store again. What kind of magic ring is it? Sophie tells her grandmother about what happened, and they decide they must ask Grandpa what to do.
Sophie realizes that the ring can grant her wishes. Now she can have everything shes ever wanted! But is that what God wants? With the help of her grandfather, Sophie is about to learn a lesson that will last her a lifetime.
Carleen Anderson Gollahon
Carleen Gollahon retired from a Christian university several years ago. She and her husband of forty-five years make their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They have two married sons and seven grandchildren. Gollahon has taught Sunday school, coordinated VBS, taught ESL to foreign students, and occasionally presented the children’s sermon.

image_97.jpg"M om, Dad, are we there yet? Haven’t we been in this car long enough? Can we stop for a few minutes just to stretch our legs?" Sophie adjusted her seatbelt for the hundredth time. Why did it always feel like it was choking her? She really didn’t like wearing it. Why couldn’t they fly? Then she’d only have a belt around her lap, and that she could handle. But she knew that wasn’t ever going to happen. She had only flown once, and that was to her aunt’s. Dad said it was very expensive. Maybe if Dad would drive just a little faster, it would help.
Mom and Dad exchanged one of those smiling looks.
Mom answered, Be patient, honey. We’ll be stopping for lunch soon, and then it’s only another hour to Grandma’s. Why don’t you listen to some music on your headphones? It’ll make the time go by faster.
Yeah,
Josh said. I want to sleep. So be quiet.
Sophie turned toward the backseat and gave her brother a good-natured look.
That’s because you were up until 2 a.m. watching your favorite movie. You’ve watched that old movie a hundred times. By now, you probably have all the lines memorized.
Emma laid her book on her lap, looked over at her sister, and then at Josh in the backseat. Come on, you two. I’m trying to read. I only have a few more pages. Can’t we have a little silence until then?
You shouldn’t have waited to read that book in the car,
Josh grumbled. You know Sophie can’t be quiet.
I can too, Josh Bennett! You’ll see. I’m sorry, Emma.
Suddenly Dad slowed the car down, pulled onto the shoulder of the road, and stopped.
Whoa, Dad, what’s the matter? Why did you pull off the road? Is something wrong?
