NIXEN OSBORNE
“LEE WAS A BIG INFLUENCE ON MY DAD’S SKATING, A BIT OF A MENTOR FOR HIM.”
Let’s start with the basics. How old are you and where are you from?
I’m 16 and I was born in Pukekohe, New Zealand, but I moved to Australia when I was three. We moved to Melbourne first and then back over to New Zealand, then to the Gold Coast for a year-and-a-half. Then we moved to Western Australia and lived there for like nine years.
Where were you in WA?
In a small mining town called Karratha; it’s super isolated. Luckily I had this tiny skatepark to learn all my shit at.
So that’s where you started skating?
Yeah. I’ve always been skating, but since I was nine or 10 I really got into it. I didn’t know that my dad skated until I was like 10.
Did your mum tell you?
Yeah, she showed me a photo of him doing a handplant, and I was like, Fuck, I want to learn that trick.
Can we talk about who your dad is?
Yeah, his name’s Curtis Osborne. He’s an old vert skater from Mount Maunganui and he used to kill it.
