There are many reasons why I wanted to do this book. The ‘Do You Feel Me?’ idea came to me out of nowhere. I had recently moved to London in search of acting opportunities and decided to study an ‘Entrepreneur and Enterprise’ course. Where I lived at the time was a 45 minute walk to get to the college. One day I had left the house later than usual so I was in a rush to get to college on time. Because it was such a long walk your mind had time to just think and you had time to acknowledge all your thoughts. Out of nowhere this story line came to me and I pulled out my Blackberry and started writing it down, after that it sat in my phone for months and months. About two months after I had an acting audition at the back of Oxford Street but because of the long journey from Chesham (end of the metropolitan line) to Oxford Street I wanted to make the most of the day instead of travelling all that way for a 10 minute audition. Once my audition was over I sat down in the park in front of the American Embassy and I started writing a short story. After I read it back to myself I was really impressed so out of excitement I wrote another one. Once I got home I then asked my room-mate to read the two short stories for me as she is an author and journalist; so she knows what she’s talking about. Once she read it she came into my room all hyped saying how she loved it etc. After that I was inspired to write more stories, eventually I had numerous stories stored on my phone but they were just sitting there and nobody but myself and my room-mate had read them. So I decided to write a book of about 40 short stories but I wanted all the stories to be able to connect with someone or inspire someone because my life ambition is to inspire as many people as possible. Now if I’m being honest after about 10 stories I found myself writing for the sake of writing and not thinking about the meaning of the stories. It was then I remembered "Do You Feel Me?" and I thought instead of ‘Do You Feel Me?’ being a film script (which is what I was originally going to write it as) I thought I could write it as a story and have my short stories in a section at the end of the book. It was then I started writing "Do You Feel Me? . . . The Mind Unleashed". All of the stories in ‘The Mind Unleashed’ were just thoughts of mine that have been put on paper. Some are tributes to people, some are just thoughts about life and then some are based on the situations that take place in society now. And then you have the poems that inspired me and the scripture from the Bible that I felt was worth sharing.
I would like to show appreciation to Miss Talisha Johnson for encouraging me to complete this book, she is not only a friend but she is a sister to me so I would like to give her a huge thank you. I would also like to thank Altonia Spencer who done the illustration for the front cover; she is such an amazing artist. I hope that the positive messages in this book have been acknowledged by every reader and hopefully you enjoy the book.

Do You
Feel Me?
Looking back on my life, I realise how blessed I am to be here today; my mother fell seriously ill when she was pregnant with me. Doctors had said there was a chance that I would pass away in her stomach because I wasn’t getting the nutrients I needed due to her illness. On the day of my birth, the doctors announced that everything apart from my eyesight was healthy; they announced I was partially blind. That was fine by me though I just didn’t appreciate the doctor smacking my bottom when I came out. I was healthy so Dad was happy, but my mother; she was still ill and after fighting her condition for nearly 2 months we had no choice but to let her go. I’m 34 now and I never got the chance to meet my mother; that by far has been the hardest challenge of my life so far. Pictures do not and never have satisfied me, the idea of never having my mother around was heart breaking. Every day from that day forth, my dad was broken. My dad worked as a manager in a newspaper printing company for 6 years before she died, when she died he still continued to go to work every day but he was drained; a robot. He would zombie walk to work, zombie walk to pick me up; we’d go home and he’d zombie walk around the house. It was very disturbing because he was such a happy man before this happened; well he was happy because she was what made him happy. With my mother gone, it was beginning to affect the way my dad worked, he was less concerned about the direction of the business and just interested in making enough money to feed me; his only child. On October 13th 1982, my dad was made redundant and the only thing he had left to stay positive about was me. His life contained hours and hours of sitting staring at the photo of my mother that hung above the fire place in the living room. She was 5ft 4, long curly hair that sat just above her waist; with hazel eyes as bright as stars; well as far as I can remember anyway, I haven’t seen a picture of her in at least 25 years. You may be wondering why I haven’t seen a picture for so long but it will all make sense in just a moment. I was given scheduled appointments at the opticians every 3 months for regular check-ups on my eyes as I was partially blind. My dad hated these appointments because they always consisted of long 40 minute to 1 hour waits; then when you finally got called inside the room it took them about 7 minutes to check your eyes. Makes you think it wasn’t worth the wait; anyway let me get to the point. The appointment 2 months after my 6th birthday was when we found out the news; I was beginning to rapidly lose my eyesight; devastating. I was young but I still remember everything, I remember putting my chin into the machine and the man looking through this camera looking thing straight into my eye and flashing a light on and off in my face; which was quite annoying because he was asking me not to close my eyes but I couldn’t help it. I just kept thinking ‘how do you expect me not to close my eyes when you’re shining the light of death in my face’ but like the strong boy I was I soldiered it out. So after looking at my eyes for 9 minutes instead of 7 (which was unusual for this optician as he’d never go over 7 minutes) he leaned back in his chair and removed his glasses. After rubbing his eyes for a few seconds he said I think we’re going to have to look at your eyes in more detail and complete a few eye scans, is that okay?
I nodded, confirming that it was fine, but Dad instantly jumped up and worriedly asked, What is going on?
. Here is where the optician lied but don’t worry, he got told off for it later. Nothing Sir, don’t worry, we just need to double check something
he said while Dad was nodding suspiciously. So they sent us back to the waiting room; the place where time stands still, Dad was shaking his leg up and down which meant he was nervous; he did it all the time. Mr Fletcher?
the lady on reception shouted, they were calling my Dad but I used to pretend they were calling me because I liked being called Mr Fletcher, it made me feel like a grown up. Anyway, we went into the room and they had the machinery all ready to go, they looked at me and came down
